Tournament Notes The only logo worn on a road jersey to make the NHLToSL playoffs belongs to the Kings. ... The only logo that is also considered a primary mark to make the playoffs belongs to the Bruins. ... The AJHL Tournament of Logos begins this week and runs concurrently with the NHLToSL playoffs. Scroll down to vote in the AJHLToL.
Tie-breaking Since the playoff format is not points-based, the winning logo will be determined by the total number of votes received rather than the percentage. In the unlikely event of an exact tie, a 24-hour run-off poll will be held the following day. (This will shorten the subsequent round of voting by one day.)

Wow...
I can't believe that a semi-proffessional hockey team misspelled the word Grizzlies...
AJHLToL 08 just makes no sense to me haha. They misspelled Grizzlies and there is a Canucks in Calgary lol.
Hey Guys .... When picking a nickname or a business name it is not essential the spelling of the nickname or the business be linguistically correct. If the choice was to choose the spelling Grizzlys there is nothing wrong with that.
Very cool you picked this league! Ive seen tons of Calgary Canucks and Calgary Royals (now mustangs) games over the years. Also had a few friends play in this league.
Have to say though the best logo of the bunch is the Saints or the Dragons!
I can't believe it... they've managed to take that Canucks logo I hate so much, and make it so much worse.
Not only that, but when I first looked at it, I assumed it was Edmonton. Not good for a Calgary team.
um... have you not noticed the Toronto Maple LEAFS before? (...correct pluralization = leaves)
nothing wrong with it. just interesting descision bythe original owners
Kinda hard for anyone to fault the "Grizzlys" when the NHL has the "Leafs."
Wow... it's the WCW Thunder logo in front of a bulldog! I nearly fell out of my chair on that one...
... and is there any hockey team named the Storm that actually has a decent logo? Granted, at least this one isn't a poor vector graphics render more appropriate for a 30-year-old arcade game like Asteroids or Tempest.
Smythe, a military man, immediately had the Toronto franchise name changed from the St. Pats to Maple Leafs, the name of a World War I fighting unit, the Maple Leaf Regiment.
A "Maple Leaf" does not refer to an actual leaf; headless compounds (can) have regular pluralization. Another example: sabertooths.
Not as glamorous a reason for the Grizzlys (I don't think) and it goes against common animal nicknaming practices, but there's always linguistic leeway with proper nouns.
Do any other logos feature the league name?
Drayton Valley is a rip off of the old LA / LB Ice Dogs.
That Canmore logo is awful. The head does not fit the rest of the body.
im orginaly from cincinnati, so the crusaders save a close look to the original reds logo. and i think the pontiac is pretty sweet. and i would like to know what most of these teams were thinking when they decided to go with those designs. but out of all of them, the canucks, come on. thats just stupid looking
We all realize that the AJHL is for 16 to 20 year olds that aren't good enough for the CHL and usually play to at best a couple hundred people. Use this as a bit of a guide when judging the logos.
Wow..... I'm pleasantly surprised.... I was expecting that the Hawks would be crushed by the Kings as I know how popular that logo is with folks here (a bit too crowded for my tastes, to be honest). Nice to see that we're in the lead right now, though still plenty of time to go.
..... and it might just be the nerd in me, but does the Calgary Canucks logo look like the overhead shot of a TIE Interceptor to anyone else?
Finally, I honestly really like the Pontiacs logo. Clean, simple, and gets to it's point. Only drawback is that it might be a touch too monotone.
MikeYYC, perhaps you should get your facts straight, the AJHL produces players that choose to the NCAA route (Dany Heatley, Mason Raymond). You should get to a game in Grande Prairie, I can ensure you that there are more the hundred people there.
albertaboy
i think mikeyyc just means that the league is not a huge money business so the logos arent necessarily the highest quality and most have been around for a really long time
Isn't that Bonnyville logo the same one used by the car company Pontiac back in the early days?
Dragons will definitely win
Calgary definitely chose the most ironic team name.
Chris,
Would love to see the winning logo from the AJHL face off against a winning logo from the BCHL. (If a BCHL tourney is done) Kind of an Icethetics version of the Doyle Cup.
jhero - exactly
albertaboy - I have numerous friends that played in the AJHL and while you are correct that you can play there without losing your NCAA eligibility, unlike the CHL. However overage players in the AJHL generally don't have the skills to make it to the CHL, and eventually the NHL. As far as attendance goes, the highest capacity arena in the league is under 2700, with most being in the 1500 or less range. While I'm sure Grande Prairie is rocking with their league leading attendance figures, the fact remains that most teams only play in front of a few hundred people.
Chris, I'm just wondering why you aren't using the old Calgary Royals logo in place of the Mustangs logo because (and I'll admit I didn't read the rules for this I'm just assuming they're the same as NHLToHL) I thought that you use logos of what they used the previous season.
Pepper, when we eventually get to the BCHL tournament, I'm sure a Doyle Cup poll won't be far behind.
Dan, the only time that's the case is when the coming season will use logos that have not yet been publicly released. In this case, all of the logos that will be used by the AJHL in 2010-11 are available here. This is why I've been holding out on doing an NHL jersey tournament: the Nashville and Buffalo sweaters are still up in the air.
For the record, the NHL jersey tourney will start in October. Then an alternate/specialty jersey tourney will follow culminating in polls to determine the best overall jersey in the league.
Wow.
I feel like SUCH a bad Albertan for not recognizing ANY of these...
Calgary Mustangs hands down the best logo there
..I feel like I should go to more Mustangs games now.
Remember when the Yeti logo advanced out of a group ahead of the Blues logo? FARCE CITY!
woah.. how did the la logo pull ahead :O not that im complaining....
half the comments on here are completely stupid, leave it up to bitter nerds to come on here and trash the league, logos, or team names. Get back to work
The reason the arenas in this league hold around 2 700 is because they are mostly small market teams. They play out of small towns not capable of supporting the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). However there are two teams that only play in front of 200 a night (Mustangs and Canucks, the two Calgary Teams) the rest of the league draws 1 000 people at least.
And lots of 20 year olds play in the legue that have already committed to NCAA schools but their scholarships don't start until they are 21...
One must remember that the small market teams is the only game in town, where as in Calgary you have the Flames Hitman University hockey college hockey and the AJHL.
As much I like the sharks and kings logos, I must say, the bruins and hawks look better on the shoulder.
no, a primary mark cannot possibly look good on a shoulder!
@ HGG447
Even though we've discussed this before, I must say that the shark is not good for a shoulder. Neither is the 'B' but the shark is slightly worse.
i was just joshin ya. i agree, i think san jose should use the fin logo on the shoulder.
25 vote difrence for kings-hawks wow
if the denver broncos and san diego chargers had a baby... it would be the mustangs logo!
