Hurricanes Reveal 3rd Sked

The Carolina Hurricanes have released a public version of their 2010-11 third jersey schedule, though they've done a clever job of hiding it.

Icethetics reader Jeff T. has did the digging and turned up a downloadable file from the Canes' official website. You can get your own copy by clicking here and downloading the PDF which includes promotional info. It marks each of the 16 home games the black alternate sweater will be used.

In the interest of saving time, here's the complete list of third jersey nights:

  • Sat., Nov. 6 - vs Florida
  • Thu., Nov. 11 - vs Philadelphia
  • Mon., Nov. 29 - vs Dallas
  • Sat., Dec. 18 - vs Anaheim
  • Thu., Dec. 23 - vs Montreal
  • Sat., Jan. 1 - vs New Jersey
  • Tue., Jan. 11 - vs Calgary
  • Thu., Jan. 20 - vs NY Rangers
  • Sat., Feb. 5 - vs Atlanta
  • Sat., Feb. 19 - vs New Jersey
  • Fri., Feb. 25 - vs Pittsburgh
  • Thu., Mar. 3 - vs Buffalo
  • Sat., Mar. 12 - vs Columbus
  • Wed., Mar. 16 - vs Toronto
  • Sat., Mar. 26 - vs Tampa Bay
  • Wed., Apr. 6 - vs Detroit

I don't really have any comments on this schedule. Pretty standard. Decent split of teams from both conferences and all at home games.

One more note. I have some exciting news. I've been offered a new job in Seattle, Wash. and will be moving before the end of November! In the meantime, I'll obviously be busy packing and driving across the entire continent (a good 3,000 miles). I'll try to keep up with the site as best I can but things probably won't get back to normal until I finally get settled in around mid-December. Very excited about the move!

Penguins Unveil WC Jersey!

Pittsburgh Penguins reveal 2011 Winter Classic sweater

The Pittsburgh Penguins officially unveiled their 2011 Winter Classic sweater today, according to the team's website.

Evgeni Malkin shows off new sweaterThey've posted a photo gallery featuring a few different shots of the new uniform, including the one above. As rumored, the sweater is a hybrid of past Pens jerseys. It's similar in design to the team's inaugural uniform from 1967 with the powder blue and navy inverted. The main difference being the addition of the original logo which was never before used on a jersey.

The design should be no surprise to Icethetics readers. It's almost exactly what I posted here earlier this month. It doesn't replace the the Penguins' first Winter Classic or the Blackhawks' WC/third jersey atop my personal favorites list, but I'm still a big fan.

It's a sharp look and almost has the feel of an "old-timey" wool hockey sweater. Don't be deceived, though, it's still a Reebok Edge jersey. But it's one of the better ones we've seen.

My only issue is the massive size of the waist stripes. Definitely think that could've been toned down a little. Way too close to the numbers on the back.

Otherwise a solid design effort and Pens fans should be pleased. It's a great new look and I hope they keep it around a while. The Penguins announced the jersey will also be worn later in the season after the Winter Classic, on Feb. 10 vs Los Angeles and Mar. 12 vs Montreal.

Now, your thoughts on the new threads?

Kings Third/Throwback Sked

The Los Angeles Kings have a pair of alternate sweaters that will be used sparingly throughout the 2010-11 season. And LA Kings Insider blogger Rich Hammond provides us with the dates.

First, the black and silver third jersey will see action for 10 home games this year. It occurs to me I should've been doing this all along with these third jersey schedules, but here's a link to the Kings third jersey gallery.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Tue., Oct. 12 - vs Atlanta
  • Thu., Nov. 11 - vs Dallas
  • Sun., Dec. 26 - vs Anaheim
  • Sat., Jan. 1 - vs San Jose
  • Thu., Jan. 20 - vs Phoenix
  • Thu., Mar. 3 - vs Phoenix
  • Mon., Mar. 7 - vs Dallas
  • Thu., Mar. 24 - vs San Jose
  • Sat., Apr. 2 - vs Dallas
  • Wed., Apr. 6 - vs Phoenix

The Thrashers stick out like a sore thumb on that list. Seems like outside of that first game, the Kings are pretty much sticking to divisional rivals. All three home games against the Coyotes and Stars will see L.A. sporting the black and silver.

But wait, there's more.  The Kings will also be wearing a purple and gold retro sweater for a handful of games — one of which was their season opener against the Canucks. I recommend a look at the jersey gallery.

Here is how that 4-night schedule shakes out:

  • Sat., Oct. 9 - @ Vancouver
  • Sat., Jan. 15 - vs Edmonton
  • Thu., Feb. 24 - vs Minnesota
  • Sat., Mar. 19 - vs Anaheim

That takes care of the third home game against the Ducks. The Sharks will be the only Pacific Division team to see the Kings in black and purple at Staples Center.

Thanks to Howard B. for the link.

Wild Third Jersey Schedule

The Minnesota Wild have posted on their website the dates when they plan to sport their green alternate uniform. It will only be used at home.

Icethetics reader Ryan wrote in with a link to the team's Promotional Schedule, which notes each of the nights that the Wild will be wearing the third jersey, which debuted a year ago. The only difference this season is that the sweaters will have the Wild's 10th anniversary patch sewn onto the front.

The alternate jersey has already been used twice this month. Here is the complete 16-night schedule:

  • Sat., Oct. 16 - vs Columbus
  • Mon., Oct. 25 - vs Los Angeles
  • Tue., Nov. 2 - vs San Jose
  • Wed., Nov. 17 - vs Anaheim
  • Fri., Nov. 26 - vs Nashville
  • Thu., Dec. 16 - vs Ottawa
  • Sun., Dec. 26 - vs Detroit
  • Sun., Jan. 2 - vs Phoenix
  • Sun., Jan. 16 - vs Vancouver
  • Sat., Feb. 12 - vs St. Louis
  • Sun., Feb. 20 - vs Detroit
  • Mon., Feb. 28 - vs Chicago
  • Tue., Mar. 8 - vs Colorado
  • Sun., Mar. 20 - vs Montreal
  • Tue., Mar. 22 - vs Toronto
  • Sat., Apr. 2 - vs Tampa Bay

The Lightning are the only non-Canadian team in the Eastern Conference that will face the Wild in green. The Red Wings are the only team to face the green twice this year.

It's also worth noting that the Wild are planning to wear the third jersey 16 times this season. Previously, we were under the impression that the NHL set a limit of 15 games for an alternate uniform. Perhaps that's merely a suggestion.

Avs Set 3rd Jersey Schedule

The Colorado Avalanche have posted their third jersey schedule online for the 2010-11 season.

Our buddy Glen C. has been hard at work digging up these schedules and sent in the link from the Avs' website. The blue alternate sweater was launched last fall. It features a burgundy shoulder yoke and COLORADO written diagonally down the front.

The jersey will be worn for 12 home games this season on the following dates:

  • Sat., Oct. 30 - vs Columbus
  • Mon., Nov. 15 - vs St. Louis
  • Fri., Nov. 19 - vs NY Rangers
  • Tue., Nov. 30 - vs Atlanta
  • Tue., Dec. 21 - vs Los Angeles
  • Sun., Jan. 2 - vs Vancouver
  • Sat., Jan. 8 - vs NY Islanders
  • Thu., Jan. 20 - vs Nashville
  • Thu., Feb. 3 - vs Minnesota
  • Wed., Feb. 16 - vs Pittsburgh
  • Fri., Mar. 11 - vs Anaheim
  • Sun., Apr. 3 - vs Calgary

The dates have been added to the Icethetics sidebar calendar. Looks like we may have the Los Angeles Kings schedule shortly, including the three additional dates when they'll sport the purple retro sweaters this year.
