Flyers Unveil New Uniforms!

The Philadelphia Flyers officially unveiled their new Rbk EDGE uniforms today.

At the moment, the team doesn't have any photos up on its official web site, but I was emailed a couple photos of the new road sweaters.

If the tag on the front is any indication, this particular example is a replica. But it does have the giant numbers we've grown to love.

As more photos become available I'll post them here and at my official Rbk EDGE photo gallery where you can find oodles of photos of the new jerseys both in action and on mannequins.

UPDATE (7:50 PM): As noted in the comments, the Flyers have posted photos from the unveiling event that took place today along with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms. Grabbed a couple to post here.

Two uniforms you'll never see on the same ice again. Here's something else you'll never see on the ice again.

That just reminds me of that episode of The Office where Michael brought in the Ben Franklin "stripper" for the ladies. Anybody watch The Office? That shit is funny! But I digress.

Nice uniforms on the Flyers. Can't be displeased with those. Minor alterations, but they fit in nicely with the progression of sweaters over the years. I'll leave you with a photo reconciling the past with the present.

NHL 2k8 Apparently Has New Stars Jersey...

...so you can stop emailing me now! Thank you to the more than 25 people who emailed me saying they saw the Dallas Stars' new Rbk EDGE uniforms on an NHL 2k8 commercial that aired on TSN last night.

For what it's worth, the people who have emailed in have said the images we've seen already match what was in the commercial. However, fittingly enough, no one had a picture or screen shot to share so I'm only writing this post to let you know I got all your emails.

Also, I'll mention again that I really don't like writing about video games so if screen shots do surface in the next day or two I may not even post them. Simply put, video game renderings are not fully accurate images (in my opinion) to show actual jerseys. I prefer actual photographs.

(That's also why I haven't posted the Gagne statuette that's been floating around.)

Real live photos are coming directly from the Stars on Friday. I'll have them here.

Flyers Push Up Jersey Unveiling

I just got an email from a reader pointing out that the Philadelphia Flyers have updated their web site with a new date for the unveiling event for their new Rbk EDGE uniforms. We will see the jerseys on Friday, September 14.

You'll see the date way down at the bottom of the screen shot. Apparently the AHL's Phantoms will also be unveiling their new sweaters at the same time. It's worth noting the link goes to the pre-order page and the image to the left of the text is last year's home sweater which is quite different from the new one.

We got a preview of it a week or so ago courtesy of season ticket holders. Thanks to Kara for the info on the new date!

I'll have photos posted as soon as I can on Friday.

Atlantic Division Concepts

I've been going through my email looking at all the concept art I've been sent in the past several weeks. Let the Concepts Gallery serve as a small indication. Anyway, I've grabbed a couple of designs for the Flyers and Devils I thought were interesting.

First off, one designer said, let's rebrand the Philadelphia Flyers a little. Here's what he came up with.

The designer had this to say about his creation.

The idea for the primary is just an updated Flying P - a little faster and sleeker looking than the current one. I've always been bothered that the current logo just doesn't evoke speed to me. As for the secondary, it's supposed to suggest something flying away from a planet or something.

Just something interesting to share. There's also this design which has been floating around a little bit. I think the idea was to fit as many letters as possible horizontally across the front of the sweater. Mission accomplished.

I can't see the Flyers ever wearing anything like that, though. However, something interesting that was sent to me was this concept for a secondary logo for the Flyers. Many who've suggested a secondary logo for Philly have simply gone with the Liberty Bell. What woudl you Flyers fans think of something like this?

Pennsylvania's nickname is the Keystone State. That should explain the outer shape — a keystone. What I like is the white sun in the background because the first thing I thought of was the orange circle in the Flyers' primary logo. Very clever.

I was impressed with that. I was also impressed by a third jersey someone came up with for the New Jersey Devils.

I know the league is abandoning those this year, but I think it could work just as well as a home sweater. I've always thought a black jersey would make the logo on the chest stand out more.

But I guess we'll never know. Devils brass have stated that the jerseys will be the same as the previous design, merely adapted to Reebok's new cut. Still, I figured this was worth a look.

Expect to see the Flyers' new sweaters on September 16, followed by the Devils' a day later in their first preseason game.

Flyers Leak Like Wild!

Including this one, the last five consecutive posts have involved the Philadelphia Flyers. Guess it's a good time to be a Flyers fan.

Yesterday, I posted a photo of a page in the Minnesota Wild season ticket holders book which featured a shot of the new uniform. Well — excuse the pun — but now it seems the Flyers have taken a page out of their book.

Season ticket holders were treated to this photo of the new Rbk EDGE home sweater. It's a much better look than the cell phone photo I posted yesterday. Looks good, Flyers fans. The changes are small but insignificant.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me this image!

And as far as the Reebok "templates" we've seen, this one doesn't appear to match any of them. What do you guys think?
