0208: Montreal Fauxbacks

Are the Montreal Canadiens in need of a third jersey? Probably not. But Thierry Dick has put together a couple anyway using some old logos on jerseys that — while they feel old — aren't. A worthy set or is seeing them once enough?

Objectively, these are very nice jerseys. However, a blue jersey with a Maple Leaf on the front won't fly with Montreal fans.

I like them, but there's only one complaint. The stripes that go around the back make the numbers very difficult to read. Montreal wore their "throwbacks" with similar striping and I remember announcers saying it was hard to read them. Otherwise, a very interesting set.

That blue version is sweet!! I'd add the Habs logo to the one shoulder (not sure why the ommission) and I'd probably lose the lower sleeve patches too. Just too many logos. The white version is just as cool. These would look awesome on the ice. All in all, one of the best designs I have seen here in years! Well done.

Alternate I might be too close to the Rangers home unis to be practical, especially with the red pants, and that old "CA" logo would probably be covered by the glove. (Perhaps use it on the opposite shoulder as the original logo?) The primary logo jumps out of the chest very well however.

Alternate II is better, a sharp, bright concept. I'd change the leggings striping to mimick those on the arms. Perhaps thicker blue stripes along the midrift as well. Looks good though.

That all said, would three team logos on a single jersey be too many?

I really like these. I know its always funky when an original six team does a throwback because for the most part there jerseys haven't changed much so teams like the Canadians and Redwings have to go back earlier than the NHL sometimes. These jerseys do that very well my only complaint is there is to much going on with the curent habs logo on the shoulders the main mark and the 2nd throw back logo on the sleeve its kinda confusing besides that love them both.

The first concept is, I believe, the first one I've rated 5 stars since the site revamp. As others have said, lose the extra logos on the cuffs, but the rest is fantastic! I don't think it's too close to the Leafs or Rangers, either. Very well done.

I would love to see these with the CH logo just as traditional alternates. The arm striping on the white one is just incredibly. So simple and yet so vividly Montreal.

Surprisingly a very sharp look. Wasn't expecting much, as the Habs logo is my third favorite in the league behind the Hawks Indian Head and the Wild bear head, but that actually does look very good. Something along those lines (the blue one) would make for an attractive third sweater for the Canadiens.
