0700: The Monochrome Island

The Concepts page has hit another milestone with the 700th consecutive post. Today, newcomer Charlie Allen shares his take on a potential Brooklyn rebrand of the New York Islanders. And it just might freak out you. Charlie used NHL 14 to bring his concept to life. He did quite a job.

I could see them pulling off the B/W look and I don't mind these really. I'm just not sure about how white pants would work.

The thing with the monochrome black and white is that it is soooo boring, and already in use. I think that having two teams that have extremely unimaginative, bland jerseys, would make things even worse.
Also, I can't stand anything to do with the Islanders.
Now, all that negativity being said, props to Charlie for doing quite a professional looking job in NHL 14. I'm digging the white pants.

not so sure about the white pants, but the islanders themselves could do a lot worse than these concepts. not sure if i love them, but i did give it four stars for thinking that they could do an all black and white jersey that looks kind of cool.

Two things that should probably help:

1. Needs more flare. Tail stripes would help a lot.
2. No white pants.

It's a nice try, although the uniforms look bland and remind me too much of the Nets. The white pants are neat though.

That being said, I do hope the Isles do a good job with their new 3rd in a couple of years.

I actually think the all white is quite good. It would make for a unique 3rd jersey anyway, its an unique look the Isles could own. A problem might be making the players stand out from the ice on tv... but (Que outrageous marketing gimmick...) what if for the 3rd jersey games they had black ice? perhaps tie it in with a sponsorship or something... come on, you know Bettman would love this!

Props to Charlie for a nice presentation. However, the bland black and white is flat out dull. It looks bad with the Nets and will look bad with any sport, team, or uniform.

Oh, my...this isn't too bad, really...

But what really catches my attention is the way he did this concept. I never thought of using the NHL games as a way to make these...I should probably do one like that myself one of these days. I'd love to see more of this kind of concept!

Man, if only EA updated the custom team feature for once!

Never white pants.

I actually like it.

However, I would be inclined to go with white pants with the black jersey and black pants with the white jersey. We don't need a repeat of this.

Nascarfan160- What EA needs to do is make it possible to create jerseys for players to use on an "in-game" squad instead of having to create a brand new team just to use a jersey. They don't offer a great selection in the game as it is, so why not let the player create their own alternate jerseys for their favourite team?

i really like this design, just not for the islander. if this was for the kings, who are black and white already, the all-whites and all-blacks would look really sharp.

The stripe on the sleeve of the road jersey makes me think of the LA Kings. Nice concept, but I'd probably add a few more stripes in there.
