0480: Remaking the Blackhawks
With the 2013 Stanley Cup Final getting underway tonight, I thought it time to break out this Blackhawks classic. Slavo Kiss (also known as Sigma Kappa) is a talented artists who's had a lot of amazing work posted here on Icethetics over the years. This Chicago concept is another one of them. It's dated 2009 but I don't think I've ever posted it on the site. I just stumbled on it cleaning up old files. I know it's sacrilege to consider changing the Hawks' look, but you have to admit this is a sharp design.

I think the secondary mark would work great as a new Seattle Totems logo. The one they have now feels hokey, and this still harks back to the haida style of artwork but in a very classy way.
I have disliked Chicago's logo from the time I started watching hockey. This would be a welcome change. Although, I'm sure that something like with the Fighting Sioux would happen in regards to their being a Native American on the front. For some reason, the old logo gets left alone.
The jerseys almost seem like a cross between the old Cleveland Barons and the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.
I like the logos but I don't think they work with the Blackhawks. The first thought that popped into my head was Washington Redskins, and it would be a nice rebrand for them. When I think of the Blackhawks I think bright red and a colorful logo and this strays too far from that identity. Maybe if the color palette didn't change much, or at least kept the same red, this would work better.

This is probably the best concent I have seen on this site and I have been a follower for close to 6 years!!!! For a team that already has an amazing logo, this makes their set even better. I have always felt that human logo's straight on were tough to pull off, but this works. I like the darker red color, makes it appear more intimidating. I also really like the neckline and striping on the bottom of the alternates. Great job!!! Where do I send my money for a bulk order????!!!!!!
i can't stand the blackhawks, but you can't change their logo or uniform.
this design is nice, but it is not something an original 6 team like the hawks should have. this is too modern. you can tell that this logo was made within the last few years. it does not have a "traditional" or "heritage" feel, and a team like the hawks should be required to keep their history.
same goes for the jerseys. they are very nice, but the are not the "blackhawks."
(hey, i hate the packers, too, but i would be mad if they changed their unis, so don't feel too bad.)
This is something I see the SENS wearing, not the Blackhawks.

I love it! I think it would be OK for an original six to change their logo once in a while. I agree this would work with the Washington Redskins too, but would love to see this on the ice. Great Job.
If Portland or Seattle ever wanted to update...reminds me of my Chilliwack alt.
Like Jonathan C, I hate the Blackhawks but I love their current branding - you just can't change it.
However, I think discourses on cultural appropriation in sports identities have reached the point where logos like this should no longer be acceptable. The current Hawks logos, along with those of the Indians, Redskins, Braves, etc., are grandfathered in, but if they were to rebrand now, I'd hope they could move away from such stereotypical imagery that some indigenous people find so offensive.
Aside from the untouchable status of the current Hawks look and my political aversion to the content of the concept, this is a VERY well designed logo. Kudos to Slavo for that.
I kind of like it, but it bothers me that he looks like he has hair in his face. Needs to be tweaked, but definitely has potential.
It seems like no one really messes with the Hawks much. I'm sure it's because of their timeless style. Kudos for picking up the gauntlet and making an incredible rebrand.
Cool. But NO. Never change the Blackhawks logo THAT much. It's the best logo in the NHL....
He should forward this design to the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. Of all teams in the CHL, Moose Jaw needs a serious rebrand!!!
