These were awesome, and boy did I miss the old concept posts.
I love that Kings' concept. What can I say, I'm biased. But purple and gold looks so great on them. I'm a huge fan of that Maple Leafs jersey also. Their current one is too plain, although it was good enough to beat my Kings wearing their alternates tonight =( but anything would be an improvement over what they currently wear though.
That black Wild jersey is really something. Don't see anything like that happening in real life unfortunately, but boy wouldn't that be something? Another black jersey.. but from a team that has never worn black before, I think that'd be alright.
But for the first Wild concept... how DARE they steal a page out of my Kings' book by blatantly putting their location right on the jersey!! At least they borrowed the Lightning's idea and put the name on the rear end.
I love all the attempts at a Flyers rebrand. They all seem to be centered around the Liberty Bell, obviously. But these artists do a good job of making this look like something a professional team designer would ask for.
Backtracking a bit... I still never understood that "Tampa Bay Pear" concept from an old Freak Out Friday post a while back. Are those going to return, by the way?
I can never decide how I feel about the Flyers rebrands. Its a team who's logo and theme is a concept more than some tangible and that made the team very difficult to brand in the first place. Overall, I really appreciate those who have put forth the effort to create something new for the team. But... I think I would die a little if all the orange were gone. Even a rebranded Flyers team would need a splash of orange, sort of like what the Ducks do now with their Orange County reference.
The Hawks Update is the best yet. i think it kills mine.
Canucks green jersey looks decent enough. Has the obvious "retro" feel to it. Like the Penguins, I don't think a hockey team should have a cartoon mascot as part of their logo.
Wild. I'm not a fan of green and red together at ALL. And adding tan into the mix? yipes. Also not a fan of word art. Also, why do we need the team's area written on the chest? I KNOW your team is from Minnesota - do you need to spell it out for me on your jersey?
Bruins. I like these concepts. I normally hate black jersey's, but the Bruins have had it forever, so it's fine. The one with the large bear seems a bit "mid-90's" to me.
Kings. This purple Kings concept is the best of the bunch. I could use some bigger stripes a-la Islanders/Oilers, but still a good concept. The Kings should be purple and gold again.
Tampa Bay. The lightning will never get it right. Whether it's a professional designer or a hack with photoshop, there will never be a nice looking "bolts" logo. Not sure why. Unfortunate naming choice perhaps. Sorta like the Hurricanes. You're backed into a corner because of a poor choice for a name. Keep trying though. Maybe something will stick.
The Ducks. haha. Poor Ducks. They are another team that will never get it right. At least it's not the MIGHTY Ducks anymore. How cool can you make a duck?? I'm a traditionalist. I like tough names; tough teams. "quack quack" doesn't do it for me. The jersey style and color scheme is outstanding. The logo is nice too ... but ... it's a duck.
Wild. Again. Another black jersey? seriously?
Maple Leafs jersey looks nice. I'm not a fan of the new school RBK vertical piping look, but that's just me. I think that style will be gone soon.
Blackhawks. They probably do need a tweak. And making that Indian head more mean is a step in the right direction. However, this fella looks a little thin-lipped. Thicken' up the facial design elements as on the original and you may have something.
Canadians. I didn't bother looking. They have 10 new third jerseys already - no need to look at more.
Flyers. People ... just stop with the Flyers concepts. You're never going to come up with a better logo. Stop trying.
johnny do you realize you just called out, the best of the bunch (LA), and a photoshop hack (TBay), when they were created by the same person.
Kudos to all the concept art posted here. Great to see people putting in the time and effort to come up with some solid works of art.
And since the IceHL doesn't have a comment section I think there are some great works of art there as well.
Few points:
THE GOOD:
- Wow. That's an awesome Hawks concept.
- LA has to make that jersey!
- The first Wild jersey rocks
- The Ducks jersey would be a MASSIVE upgrade
THE BAD:
- Bruins, Canadiens, Leafs...... meh
THE UNDECIDED:
- All of the Philly concepts.... I like the ideas - especially the Liberty bell since it's such a prominent Philly landmark, yet it's unused by any pro sports team - but just not sure they're implemented right
- I know a lot of people like the Johnny Canuck logo, but I'm still on the fence.

I am a huge Hawks fan and I am usually against changing a good thing but that has got to be one of the best representations of the Indian Head....that needs to be sent to the Hawks Marketing Department. It would look great on a third jersey!
I really hope that Johnny Canuck (from the shoulder patch on the new thirds) is the center crest, I am not a fan of the full body looks like a wild/penguins rip off....
I have a comment regarding the practicality of the Vuvox collage viewer. I know it may be the only way you are able to show off the concepts, but I would imagine that a team-by-team section for concepts would work better. The scrolling was a bit awkward. I'd rather just click on the picture like with the 3rd Central area. I know it may look bare for a while until you get more concept art to put up, but in the long run it may be easier for everyone to locate and view the concepts, especially if you plan on this concepts section containing a lot of images. For example, if I were trying to locate a particular concept that I enjoyed after several collages have been put up, I probably won't remember the number. However, a thumbnail or something of the sort would work splendidly I would think.
At any rate, I know this was hard work, so thanks for doing it. Just thought you might like some input on it.
That Ducks jersey is awesome! I also think the Blackhawks logo is enough of an improvement, while still staying very true to the original, that I would love to see the change made officially.
Also, props on the Johnny Canuck jersey and the Kings jersey.
As for the previous comment, I agree that a library of concepts by team would be cool.
a library is definitely needed, as i said on the front page post, even if it is just using the flickr account from NHLToL.
that blackhawks logo is awesome, i might actually be alright with that change...it's true to the original while being true to the namesake. it's kinda like when the miami dolphins toughened up their logo.
that wild black jersey i would not be in favor of...do we really need more black and red? every team in the league wears blue, black, or red (phoenix comes close to an exception, pre-3rd jersey anyways), let's not add to that. the logo on that jersey, however is PHENOMINAL. that should be on hats and t-shirts asap. it's simple, it combines the wild's logos for a true branding logo, which would be perfect for otherwise generic merchandise.
i gotta give credit to those ducks jerseys, it's a valiant effort, but how much can you really do with a duck? i think a wordmark-style logo might be the best way to go (webbed-D anybody?)
bringing back the double-striped B sweater would be awesome. THAT should have been the basis for their new third. take that, with the secondary bear logo, and you have a winner. the big bear would be perfect for MLB turn-ahead-the-clock promotion

I really like the idea of putting the concepts in a slideshow like this, and I like how Chris added his commentary to the slideshow. I'm really looking forward to the first Freak-out Friday in this format.
As for the concepts themselves, the Canucks look good in green, but the green concepts are all meshing together in my brain right now, and it's hard for any of them to stick out. As for the minnesota concepts, if wordmarks and butt logos are the future of the NHL, we might as well get used to them, and there are worse ways to do it than the first one, but the second one with just green and wheat is near-perfect. The black one is pretty good, too.
As for the Bruins, I don't accept that gold won't work for them, seeing as they used it off and on throughout the 50s and 60s. But these aren't working for me.
Montreal, Philly, Tampa, Anaheim and Los Angeles were all nice updates. The logos were really nice. Especially the LA logo. Great update to their inaugural logo. Toronto not so much. Maybe it says more about me than the logo that I'll accept any changes to the leaf itself, but consider the font unchangeable.
THAT is what the hawks need to use!
Also, I'm kind of on the fence with that flyers concept- it looks absolutley amazing, but I'd hate for philly to lose the orange, they are the only team that has been daring enough to make an orange jersey.... that's the sort of thing that the league needs in terms of jerseys, more colour.
As for Tampa Bay, I think whoever attempted that one just made the logo too complicated- go with something simpler and you will have a more easily recognizable brand that more resembles their name.
Kudos to whoever tried rebranding Montreal- I love the fleur de lys- maple leaf combo, but their current scheme is just too good to change.
A modernized remake of the classic Blackhawks logo would be a sacrilege.

The black boston jersey with the yellow B is reminiscent to their older days. Minnesota would be one of the few teams that i think can pull a script logo on a jersey, like Rangers style. The lightning should get a logo similar to the one on that concept because "BOLTS" is just awful. Kings concept is neat, but as for Blackhawks and Flyers....you just dont do it. Sacrilege indeed.
i don't know that we have to live with wordmarks and butt logos...when the edge jerseys were first unveiled, everyone was saying that we'll have to live with tight jerseys and vertical striping. absolute tightness was lost by mid-season, and it continues to improve. from the new third jerseys, the general trend seems to be returning to the traditional hockey jersey.
only atlanta, phoenix, and ottawa using vertical striping.
only boston and san jose have completely blank hemlines
only dallas, los angeles, and tampa bay don't use full hemline stripes (but they're still there!)
8 out of 18 jerseys are less-than-traditional. it's a good start.
if people continue to vote with our wallets, we can kill the wordmarks and butt logos too!
it's a slow process, but eventually, the league will do what the people want [to buy].
for once, i have a glimmer of hope with hockey jerseys. if we continue to fight the good fight, we shall get the sweaters we rightfully deserve to see.
so Jeff, don't be so quick to write things off as inevitable. we are only defeated when we accept defeat. something i must never do.

Like with everyone else.....some good concepts (some REALLY good) and some not so good.
Canucks - I like the green, since only one team sports it, and it is a Canuck color that's never been their primary. Maybe it's time for the change. Good use of the stick logo on shoulders.
Not 100% nuts about Johnny Lumberjack, but anything beats that stupid whale turning into a C! Never liked it - or those colors. Overall, a good job on this one.
Wild - The first one seems to have a lot going on, and what on earth is that print all over the back? The 2nd one looks like it was created by the same genius who did Thrahers,Sens,Bolts,Dallas 3rd's. Enough already. I love the design of the last one. The logo is dead on....combining the old logo with the 'word' logo. Surprised it wasn't done yet! Again,stop with all the black, it's getting depressing. Make it green and we have a winner.
Boston - This seems to always get the most confusing responses. Why does everyone always want to mess with an original 6 classic? The plain 'B' is their basic logo without the spokes. They had that jersey way back when. The grizzly bear looked nicest on their old logo which is now their 3rd. If a better stripe concept with some brown(like the vintage) could be done,then ok. Otherwise....Leave well enough alone.
Canadiens - To this one I say.... don't even waste your paper or markers. The greatest hockey team in history needs no change. The H in the C says it all..Recognizable everywhere.
It's like changing the Yankees uni's. A total crime.
Flyers - You're kidding me, right? Nothing says Flyers or Philly hockey better than the classic P logo in their black and orange uni's. I wouldn't even consider them for a 3rd.
Kings - Good idea, bringing back that classic crown with a bit of a tweak. The modern one is awful. I just think it's time to do away with black completely. The purple and gold will work again, believe me. The Kings copied the Lakers and Raiders, but it's time to go classic again!
Tampa - What was wrong with their inaugural uniforms? The logo was great. Just take this new blue being used for the 3rd's, substitute it for the original black(again) and you have yourself a nice uniform. I like the new 3rd uni.....but please.....no shortened names!
Ducks - Like the guy said above me..... it'll be hard to come up with a cool looking logo or uniform for a team with such a silly nickname. They did it to themselves. I disliked anything that the Ducks have ever worn. Unfortunately, this concept joins them.
Leafs - See Canadiens!
Hawks - Same thing the Dolphins did. Made an innocent logo look mean. Dolphins aren't supposed to be mean. Now Indians on the other hand..... lol Looks ok,I guess. But I don't see a thing wrong with the Blackhawks old logo.
Overall a pretty decent job on the artwork/designs. Maybe some of the brainiacs who came up with those lame uniforms (and they know who they are) should give you a call!
Wow, that Kings jersey is horrible. I'm sorry, but it just looks like a cartoony modification of the Blues' jersey.
That Blackhawks logo is legit, seriously I dont know why the organization hasn't tried to toughen up their logo, personally I think that all of the Chicago teams need facelifts, but that's just me.

The green Vancouver jersey is okay, but I think that the current Johnny Canuck "V" logo would be better than what's used.
The black Bruins jersey actually looks decent, and the full-sized bear one might be okay if there's some revisions (I can't pinpoint what).
I'm iffy on the Kings jersey...
I think the Bolts jersery isn't the best, but it's better than the ones they have now.
The Ducks jersey seems...awkward. I could be better, but it's an excellent try at it.
The Hawks logo is by far the best of the bunch. In fact, it's awesome! It keeps the traditional look and toughens it up.
The updated Blackhawks logo is nicely done. I'm still not sold on that green Canucks jersey.

The guy who made the updated Blackhawk's logo has done an amazing job! He actually made it look intimidating! Pretty cool green thirds for my Canucks, but I have seen many before. Really don't like the Ducks concepts though, even though I believe they need a real logo. And I actually like the idea of combining the Wild's shoulder patch and primary logo together, it looks better to me than their home jersey one.
The Kings jersey is a major improvement. That logo needs to come back!

As a flyers fan i think that flyers concept is terrible however the l like the liberty bell as a third jersey and even though i think black sweaters are over done i think it would work better as black sweater with the current logo on the sleeves and orange piping or cuffs and that the primary jersey should be all orange with the logo that has defined the team. i also like the green by minnesota as well as the ducks concepts
the font on those pictures are way too small to read. Anyway of enlargening it?
every concept i see looks great, well except for the canadiens, flyers and the 2nd minnesota jersey. other then that nice job. love the ducks once. I like the vancouver jersey but it seems to much like the pens third jersey and minnesotas current home jersey, with the logo design. the way the letters go around the little logo in ther middle.
The black Minnesota jersey screams photoshop to me. It looks way to busy to be an actual NHL logo. Not that it's worse than their current home uniforms, but it's still nonetheless disappointing.
THE GOOD:
Vancouver- Seen lots like it, but never get tired of them... Really nice.
Los Angeles- Really cool but, why is there black with the yellow, purple and white?
Anaheim- DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!
Chicago- Great transition... Could see it happening
Toronto- Best Toronto jersey. Ever. Coming from a diehard Senators fan...

THANKS to everyone for the comments about the Blackhawks logo I put together. I really appreciate the feedback. I have to agree that it might be sacrilege to change the logo. I actually love the old smiley indian, but wondered what he would look like toughened up.
I thought all of the concepts were fantastic. Nice touch with the leaf on the cuff of the Toronto jersey.
I like them all, but I kno your bolts fan, but the star shownig where tampa bay is, even though you made fun of vancouver for it.
Not a bad jersey, that first Vancouver concept.... but great job copying the Penguins 3rd !
I kinda like the new Indian head, but, like so many people say with the Red Wings, if it aint broke...
I do like the Lightning redeux. As for the Ducks...well, you just can't spit-shine a turd, regardless of what they say on Myth Busters. When you are a duck, you will never be feared, no matter how many calves Pronger tries to slash. If you really want to toughen up Anaheim's image, rename the team the Anaheim Parros Staches; that will strike fear in the hearts of their foes. And the logo...well, it might look like a 70's porn movie poster, but that would still be tougher than an animal old ladies feed in parks.
I really like the Canucks version. They keep the tradiotional blue and green with the traditional (and sometimes overused) logo in a circle. But with the use of Johnny Canuck, for whom the team was named after, I think this jersey looks cool as hell.
Incorporating the original stick-in-rink logo on the shoulders would round out this concept perfectly! Nice job.

That all green Minnesota jersey was a VERY close design to the wild's real 3rd jersey! Good call on who ever came up with that one.
