All-Star Anticipation
As you know, the Carolina Hurricanes were recently awarded the NHL All-Star weekend for 2011. A logo has not yet been released. In anticipation of that, a lot of artists have been sending in all-star concepts so I wanted to share some of those tonight.
Tyler has created the most original/complete logo and uniform set for the 2011 All-Star Game. Something like this could very well be the logo. Despite its similarity to the 2009 game in Montreal, it does what most all-star logos do. It takes elements of the host team's logo and combines it with stars. The uniform designs are also surprisingly feasible. I would not be at all surprised to see something like this when the official logos and jerseys are unveiled. Is it the most creative all-star set we've ever seen? At the risk of offending Tyler, no. But to his credit, it is very realistic. |

Ezra sends in this uniform set, a fitting follow-up to the 2009 all-star jerseys. Not bad, but maybe a little too heavy-handed with the stars. |
|
Matt's submission is pretty sharp. Great use of stars and striping. Only odd thing I noticed was the use of Avalanche jersey numbers. Seems a little out of place. But overall, very nice jerseys. |

This last concept logo isn't about the 2011 All-Star Game, obviously. Instead, it's Tony's suggestion for a 2012 edition of the Winter Classic in Ohio featuring the Columbus Blue Jackets. He's even set up a Facebook page to promote his cause. Feel free to join him if you support it too. |
Got some really excellent concepts on the way. Heading to the Northeast for those so check back soon.

Why is Staal wearing 10?
I think the NHL should strongly consider that first set of concept logo/jerseys. Great job, Tyler!
I agree. That first set of jerseys is great. It's super classic, but still super modern. Well done, Tyler. And not just because we share the same name.
I really like Tyler's set at the top, a good All Star logo design which looks NHL worthy, with a nice set of jerseys included in the package. I'm also luvin Matt's Eastern/Western concepts, he's come up with another set of really nice jersey designs. That winter classic logo isn't bad, although it does need some work, but overall not a bad idea.
I wonder who the Blue Jackets fans would like to see them play in a WC, IMO I wouldn't mind seeing a Columbus VS St Louis WC game.
wheres the "bridgestone" logo in the winter classic logo? pffffft hahaha what a joke that they have to sponser such a good event
I would like to see a winter classic game in Columbus, have OSU play Michigan in an afternoon game in the 'Shoe' and then have the Jackets play the Wings in a nightcap.. it'd be awesome seeing 110,000 people for that.
Yeah, Staal in 10 makes no sense whatsoever. He wears 12 both on the Hurricanes and in the last few ASGs. Only other number he's worn is 21, for the 2007 All star game and team canada.
...Why the hell would there be a winter classic in Columbus? HAHAHAH that will never happen, sorry. The only destinations are for cities which sell out most games and who have competitive teams. Ppl sacrifice the cold weather to go out and watch their teams play a historic event, ppl in Ohio will not do that.. LOL unrealistic idea buddy.
"Johnson" you apparently don't live in a city where 110,000 people WILL sit in the cold to watch their team play.. even if that team plays football. You also apparently haven't been to Columbus to watch a Jackets game, they have some of the most loyal fans around. I live in Vancouver and I am smart enough to see a good idea when it comes around. Cities with Competitive teams? Their was talk of a Rangers-Islanders game. I don't want to hear it sir.
A game in Columbus would do well. I'm a student at Ohio State, and I guarantee 10,000 to 20,000 students would be there. there are a lot of hockey fans in town. The NHL would be crossing their fingers that Ohio State made it into the National Championship game or the Rose Bowl, because if they didn't, 50,000 people max. So I think Columbus and St. Louis would be the best match since Detroit and Chicago played already. Minnesota would who I would want in that game because they both came in at the same time.
thanks for the kind comments on my logo, yeah its a far fecth dream. but still thanks dave and tyler for defending cbus. still if we would to get 50,000, thats still more than the past two winter classics. i really think it will happen, the nhl is running out of cool places to do it. i am sure something is in the works for ohio stadium to it within the next five years.
I hope I don't get struck down by the Woody Hayes (The late great Ohio State football coach for those who don't know.) for saying this, but Michigan Stadium hosting Detroit would be pretty cool too.
Just saying that I was the last two Tylers. haha Didn't realize the names were always in all caps.
I really get tired of extremely ignorant people such as "Johnson" up there. People who don't realize or even care to realize that lesser known teams actually have extremely loyal fan bases. Its just just the popular teams that deserve publicity. They get enough. Teams like Carolina deserve the All-Star Game. And teams like Columbus do deserve a Winter Classic. Columbus would be a great place! That stadium is massive! And I guarantee they would fill it to the very last possible row!
