Collection 41: Return of the Jets
Wednesday · Jul 13 · 2011 | 11:47 AM PDT 23 Comments
I'm a little surprised at the lack of original Jets concepts being submitted. Also just didn't realized I have freshened up this page in two weeks. That's the longest we've gone in months. Here's a look at what's come in for Winnipeg.
Should have another round of concepts in the next few days.

Why are most of these logos birds and not airplanes???
To me the first one looks more like a fish hook and anchor then anything to do with the jets, I personally like connor's, its classic yet switches things up a little bit
I don't get the ones with the birds. They aren't the Thrashers, they're the Jets. The 2nd one, Daniel Patch, is WAY too similar to the Capitals. 1st and 3rd are the best and between them, it's a toss up.
I know many of the usual designers submitted designs for the Puckdrawn competition that ran a few weeks back, so that might be the culprit shrug
I like the first one but it needs different font for names and number.. Cool logos on it though
I'm assuming birds because of the speculation of the name BEFORE they were named the Jets. They didn't just make these yesterday.
Rene, Paul: Mine, like most of these probably were, was made well before the name was announced and "concepts".
From top to bottom:
Nice Jets concept, Chris, but I've got some issues. The shoulder logo emblem comes off as a mish-mash of ideas that don't really fit well together; the "jet" looks more like a fence-topping spike, and the intake fan took me too long to recognize, and there's no sense of motion; plus, overall, it doesn't fit in with your other logos. The primary crest definitely conveys that motion, and the curlicue contrail forming a hidden J is a nice touch, but the extreme angle of rotation and the extra pointiness of the serifs makes me immediately think of the Homestar Runner Xeriouxly Forxe theme. The Jets script works very well, and should be on the uniform (I'd make Jets the primary, and the W the shoulder logo, but with a slight tweak; possibly making it a circle logo with the jet breaking out, but the rest of the W contained). I can't see that name and number font ever working in the NHL.
Daniel's got a nice, solid design. I'm not sure red works as the primary color for the falcon logo, though, because at least for me, the first thing that comes to mind with a primarily red bird is a cardinal. I've never been a fan of the Avalanche numbers, myself, but they're not a dealbreaker here. I like the 1920-inspired alternate as well, though I could only see that as a one-time thing, like a future Heritage Classic.
Connor's concept is nice and clean; the contrasting shoulder yokes and wide stripes are a nice mix of the WHA era and 1990s Jets sweaters. The "Jets" script looks a little on the generic side to me, though. It looks like you attempted to construct a jet fighter image out of that block W, but it just doesn't work at all; it'd be better to take an actual jet design, simplify the shape of it somewhat, and then find a way to work a W shape into it.
Jeff, I just have to say, even with the Bettman piping, that's probably the best Thrashers jersey I've seen since their 1999 models. Though... double piping at the bottom? What the heck?
Evan, I'm guessing you went off the Moose logo for the colors? Needs black... and some actual white for that trim.
i like the first one the only thing that i would change is to make the A red, also whats with the winnepeg falcons stuff
For those who don't know why some of these are Bird logos, that's because there were rumors of calling the team the Winnipeg Falcons.
The Winnipeg Falcons were a senior men's amateur ice hockey team. In the 1919-1920 season, the Winnipeg Falcons won the Allan Cup. That team went on to represent Canada in the 1920 Olympic games held in Antwerp, Belgium. There the Falcons, soundly beating all their opponents, won for Canada the first ever Olympic Gold Medal in ice hockey.
Why are there so many Falcons concepts? They are going to be the Jets, not the Falcons
LOL at the Thrasher concept. =) Aside from the logo, I like the color combination and I feel the white piping works with the simple striping. Maybe Jeff can retool the Thrasher head into a Jet silhouette as a reincarnation tribute if you will.
I really like how Chris Smith's (is that you Chris?) design actually look like wing flaps on the sleeves. Really nice way to go in a new direction and actually evoke a jet. Not in love with the crest and wordmark though - very off-centered and difficult to read respectively. I'm just a little indifferent on the turbines on the secondary. But by and large the best concept of the bunch.
Someone should try to incorporate the Avro Arrow. A Canadian symbol and nostalgic, kinda like the Jets themselves.
The first one looks like it says Jobs instead of Jets.
I really like the Bird/Maple Leaf logo in the 2nd one (and 3rd), very clever, but at the same time I don't know why there is a bird in the logo. I guess I don't care much for any Thrashers nostalgia.
i like the third reminds me of the falcons jersey they wore in world cup but should make into more of a jet then a bird?
No, the Chris who designed the first concept is not me. I only post reader concepts here.
I like the 2 Falcons concepts by Daniel Patch. The logos might be a little too close to ones we've seen on Captials jerseys. Would have been a good name if they didn't go with Jets and sort of funny considering they came from the home of another team with the Falcons nickname.
the 1st one is too busy, but i like the jet engine shoulder logo
I absolutly love the first one it kicks the pants off the other ones hands down!!!
I like the idea Chris Smith was going for with the J inside the W ( a la Hartford) and heading north , a little tweak of that and you have yourself a winner
I'm the one that designed the Falcons concept. I had finished it before Winnipeg had even got the Thrashers, so I wanted to go a different route then the Thousands of Jets concepts at the time. I'm pretty sure it was also one of the FIRST Falcons concepts, everybody else was just copying me (Just kidding :P) The comments about it looking like Washington are completely right though, but I didn't actually put two and two together until after I had released it.
I think Connor's design is great!
