0002: Classic Toronto

The new approach to concept art here at Icethetics is off and running. Remember to check back every day for new posts. Today, Bryan Scartozzi provides his take on what the Toronto Maple Leafs should wear when they take part in the 2013 NHL Winter Classic in Detroit. His design is based on the uniform of the 1917-18 Toronto Arenas.

Execution note:
Not too sure what is going on with the hem on the bottom of the sweater. It looks like you have a blue hem stripe going across the bottom, and then beneath that a blue "apron". just stick with a a wider "apron" no need to add in the stripe, it just confuses the audience.

Overall, this sweater does not say "classic" to me. Trying to mash together Leafs and Arenas does not seem like the way to go to me (especially if you are using the awesome vintage leaf silhouette). Also the striping on the jersey is too plain for my liking.

The "Leaf" is classic but that's about all. previous Jerseys from 30s and 40s had the stripe jobs. this one is more Tampa Bay.

I am in the middle of a concept and I did the exact same logo!! i think the logo good!!! i mean the maple leafs have used three different styles of the maple leaf in the last 2 years so i think you did right
however i have to agree that if it's going to be classic it will need classic stripes of some sort

I'd rather see maybe a St. Pat's logo to be honest. But overall it's well done. Very clean.
