0070: Vintage Red Wings

Today I'm kicking off a new weeklong series featuring one of my favorite concept artists. Micah Loyed's Vintage Week is sure not to disappoint. His work is very simple and uncluttered. Since this is a Winter Classic Weekend, we're starting with the Detroit Red Wings. Maple Leafs tomorrow.

I think the last thing that detroit needs to do is simplify their already rather plain uniforms

Great work. Can't say it's better than the current, traditional Wings garb, but it's a solid concept.

I think the logo and striping should be switched on the jerseys. One of the dumbest things, in my opinion, is putting your city name on your home and not your away. Your home team knows which city you are from and away teams crowds dont always recognize a logo.

Z, then you most just completely and utterly hate the Buffalo Sabers, no?

its not hate, but it just a headscratcher. You are infront of your home crowd..."Hey where are these guys from....oh it says Buffalo on the jersey, they must be from Buffalo, or maybe with all the Buffalos on the jersey they are the Buffalos?".

THERE ARE THE BUFFALO BUFFALO SABERS! haha. I'm with you though. I think teams should change the fact that some of the logos are overshadowed by where the team is from or simply lettering spelling out the teams name or city rather than a creative logo design. Examples: LA Kings, Washington Capitals, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabers, Dallas Stars.

I understand the Rangers and wanting to keep it classic and even Washington's modern classic font type, but as for the others I don't really understand.
