0206: Panthers Re-Bourne

I realize Andrew Bourne's NHL series hasn't been the most popular thing on the Concepts page as of late but there's some neat stuff down the line that I think is definitely worth a look. (I might skip ahead of need be.) Today, he tackles the Florida Panthers.

While I feel that the home/away could use a bit more red to them - it's always struck me as Florida's colour - the simplified colour scheme nonetheless looks very good. That third is nearly perfect. Exactly what the Panthers need. Good job.
I like the design but the colors are too Nashville though. Switch out red for the yellow home jersey and I'd say they're perfect.
The desaturation of the NHL continues. I like the striping patterns A LOT and the third is really neat, and as good an implementation of the "scar/bite/scratch" lines as I've seen.
But, please, please, please, please don't be afraid of bold colors and powerful reds and blues, etc.
Love the shoulder patch with the tears.
Adrew's stuff has gotten low ratings, but that doesn't mean his concepts are bad. They are really thought out and really creative. Sometimes, people wouldn't want to see the outcomes on the ice, but that doesn't mean his designs aren't extremely cool and interesting to look at.
not to bad but the bruins look is to obvious with the yellow, they need red
I like the look of the home/away, but, as a Panthers fan, I cannot give anything more than 1 star that takes red away from the Cats. The Panthers HAVE to wear red at home, or it's a 1/5. Make the gold the alternate and create a red version to be the home and it's probably 3/ or 4/5.
Colour scheme:
I like the re-colouring of the panthers logo (it really brightens it up, and brings a youthful look to the logo, which mirrors the youth movement that will be going on in florida over the next few seasons).
Jersey design:
striping is classic, but uninspiring, nothing special. with the colouring, and the yoke style, not distinct enough from the bruins or sabres.
Logos:
palm tree logo is not strong enough to be a primary. the scratch marks are tacky, and appear too "minor league", especially the tri-colour one.
Overall:
These threads lack that "Florida" sense style. They look have too much in common with the current bruins, sabres and preds unis, and are not unique enough to set them apart from the re-bourne stars set. overall one of the better sets you have done, but just not unique or interesting enough for me to really like.
The secondary logo looks like lines of cocaine.
I can appreciate the scratch marks (though shouldn't there be four marks to match up with the number of claws on the paw?) but, I'm sorry, there's no way the casual observer wouldn't mistake these for Bruin jerseys.
This is definitely one of Andrew's better concepts thus far! Though I would avoid using the same striping as the Bruins in the home/away uniforms, he has presented a nice colour scheme that works well with the existing Panthers logo. I really like the alternate uniform, however... I'm surprised that no one thought of using their shoulder patch as a primary for a third uniform before! Cool set.
This is more like it - The muted yellow on the Florida jersey looks like it was made to be there. I love it.
As for the 3rd, I like everything except the main blue. I've always felt the stick and palm patch could be a main logo on a 3rd, and I dig the cat scratch marks - it makes a pretty clever should patch, and a neat feature on the striping.
I would have preferred the third to be red instead of blue but other than that I really like it !
The third jersey is amazing! I love it, but it's kind of strange to have the Sun logo on the front if your team is the Panthers.
There was a large clamor to get red back in their uniforms. To go back on that after just having it return in favor of some diluted urine yellow is a terrible idea.
Very creative, especially with the 3rd, however the home and road reminds me of a combo between the bruins and preds, with the colors and stripping patterns. I agree with those that suggest you should incorporate more red and blue. The home has to be red imo.
this would be great if you took out the scratch marks and replaced all those logos with those of the Buffalo Sabres.
It's strange, I knew that I liked the home/away striping but I didn't know why. Seeing that Boston is my home team, their design must have been in my subconscious...
I know that the colors are basically Nashville but I am looking at my 30 teams as a whole while designing these jerseys and in my 30 teams, this is unique (Nashville returns to their roots w/ Blue & Silver). Yes, Florida is a red team but for me, it has always made more sense to have them as a yellow team.
3rd jersey - I've always loved that palm tree/stick logo and wanted to see if it could work as the dominant logo. I liked the idea of it but as Wingnut pointed out, it is strange to have a team called the Panthers and not show a cat. My solution was to have the claw mark represent the Panther. So, did it work? I don't know, but that was the thought process.
On a side note. I know that some of these jerseys have been less than impressive, but the harsh criticism has really woken me up. This Florida team was created more recently after I heard your critiques on other jerseys. The criticism has really made me think harder about each team and I hope that it shows in the newer concepts.
Keep critiquing, and keep helping me out guys! Thanks!
I guess why the rebranding of Bourne seems to be less than popular is the lack of colour. They all feature colours that really aren't used, which is fine. But there is a reason they aren't used. They are boring, dull, bland colours that looked washed out. All of his concepts do. Thats the part that sucks, because I think the designs are sound, but the colours are really poor choices.
I'm not saying I could do any better, but to me, the washed out colours look worse than every team just having the typical navy blue or black jersey. Cmon Andrew, pump some fun colour into this stuff!
Excellent job on this one, Andrew. I especially love the 3rd!
I don't see why his stuff isn't popular. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I quite like seeing his designs, and don't feel that there would be any need to skip ahead.
As to this design, I'm a fan of the yellow jersey here. Yeah, Boston and Nashville have been going that route, but when I think Florida, I think sunshine, and that's drawn out well here, with the sun-based alt logo and the yellow jersey. If anything, the home white might be a bit too Buffalo Sabres. That's the jersey where the yellow doesn't work quite as well, since it's too easy to confuse with another team; I'd be interested in seeing the yellow striping replaced with red.
March's comment about the Panthers wanting to get back to red also has some validity, but honestly, the point of this design series is to reimagine the league, and sometimes that requires getting away from what "everyone wants." A good place to go for more red would be the alt jersey, where the red and blue could be switched without impacting the jersey style in any significant way. I'd also be interested in seeing (and this pains me to say, since I reflexively dislike red/gold and red/blue/gold combinations) what the yellow home jersey would look like substituting red where there's currently blue (except on the logo itself, which would look weird with a color inversion.)
Interesting redesign, Andrew!
These are my favorite thus far. I liked the Flames' sweaters as well and LOVED the Canes', but haven't been a big fan of the others quite honestly. These jerseys look great though with a classic look. The yellow in the home may be a little too close to Nashville but that could be my screen too. The away sweater is great. I love the shoulders and the details on the alternate jersey.
I love the overall look of them, but the bottom stripes remind me too much of the Bruins. And I was never a fan of the Bruins lol
I like it. A fresh approach to the panthers. One of the best, if not the best in this series so far.
