0674: Russia in Sochi

Better late than never, right? As Russia hosts the 2014 Winter Olympics, you might wonder if they could improve on the jersey Nike gave to them. So continues Eric Westhaver's series. Here's his write-up on the design choices.
Say what you want about the Russians, but no one disagrees with their place at the rink. Internationally, only one country has done better (three guesses who). Since I always thought of Russia as a highly industrial nation, I wanted to throw that in with simple chest stripes, a square stencil font, and a print eagle on the back. The third is a throwback to 1954, their first international title.

that third jersey is beyond cool
Dear Nike,
HIRE THIS GUY!
- Sincerely, Brandon H.
These are pretty good. The stripe on the front makes it kind of look like a football (soccer) jersey but that's o.k. The one thing I would change are the numbers. The font you used is kind of hard to read.
I really like the Olympic rings where the makers logo usually is. I think that's a GREAT idea. I love the 1954 jersey.
The 8 looks like an upside down and backwards 13. But maybe that's what Ovechkin is.
That 3rd is absolutely awesome.
I think the font you used would actually look better if the names were in Cyrillic.
Great work! I would buy the red one with Fedorov 91 on it in an instant!
Really like the idea for the black third! I've never seen Soviet-era hockey jerseys from the Super League, but I have to imagine that they have the same sort of feel that Canada and the US had in the 30s & 40s. Great job!
