Collection 43: Designing a Jersey for the Jets

On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets unveiled their new logos. In the 24 hours since then, Icethetics concept artists have been hard at work putting them onto their own jersey designs. Let's see how they turned out.

For my money, Brian has the best jersey design while Drew has what I think is the best color scheme. Perhaps the Jets will find something in here. If they do, I could see myself loving the uniforms even if I'm not completely sold on the new primary logo. If you've got a Jets concept to share, feel free to send it along!

I do really like Brian's design as well. The only problem I have with it is where the stripes stop on the back. It looks great framing the "33" on that jersey, but what about on Evander Kane's "9" or even Ladd's "16"? Will there be an extra-wide space or will each jersey be custom-made so that the number fits perfectly between the stopped stripe?

I love the design and originality of the striping, but worry about the practicality of adding the numbers. I would like to see some red as well, but it looks great as it is other than that striping issue.

I like Stephen's striping, but the blue/gray seems kind of plain and Southern. Because it's navy and not an electric blue, it feels muted. Louie's is nice in its simplicity, but, again, a bit of color added would do wonders for it (replace the gray on the sleeves with the light blue and the white cuffs with red?). John's is a cool throwback, and reminds me a lot of an early-2000s All Star Game jersey (2000, I think, just minus a chest stripe). Not crazy about the alternate, though.

I can't comment on my own, other than to say that I'm glad you enjoy the color scheme, Chris.

I fully agree with your assessment regarding Brian and Drew's concepts, although my favourite single jersey is definitely John's red one. Then again, I like the secondary logo so much more than the primary, so that probably explains it.

One way or the other, I think the Jets need an interesting jersey to make up for the overall quietness of their logo.

drew's is my favorite, louie's looks alot like an early 2000s canucks jersey and john's reminds me of the old jets unis.

@ROF HOCKEY In fairness though, the jets have always been those colours.

If the Jets weren't going to be red, white and blue Luke the original Jets, that's would just be wrong in my opinion. The color scheme is just as important as the team name.

I'm all for the new logo. I also like the colors Drew used. The "Thrasher Blue" looks great with the red and dark blue. However, I'm disappointed that the league will adopt yet another red, blue and white clad team. Why not pull something fresh and go with a GREY home jersey? Think about it... 1. It will be really original No one wears grey. I think it could be the first time the any NHL team has worn grey. 2. The color of fighter jets, more specifically the one on the logo is grey. 3. I believe the other colors will pop out really well on a grey jersey. 4. I've seen grey work really well on a hockey jersey before. Ohio St. has great unis. UMass had a grey pant shell for a little while. I say grey jerseys with grey pant shells for the jets. Make them look like streaking fighter jets on the ice!

I like John's designs the best. Brian's are quite nice as well, but a little too busy for my liking.

However, I completely disagree about Drew's. I don't like that colo(u)r scheme at all. I think it is the shade of red used. Or maybe it is the light blue. I am not really sure, but it just turns me right off.

This is just a hunch, but I seriously doubt the Jets' jerseys will feature baby blue, and I suspect red will appear exclusively in the logo. I bet it will be mostly navy blue, with grey and white stripes. No piping, and hopefully no shoulder yoke

Disappointed in the Silver around the logo and the Jet. Silver is grey on everything except sewn material, it makes it look dull. Also the log center is too busy and looks unclear if you stand away from it. If they wanted to keep the center cleaner, they should have done the plan in red and no maple leaf. If you look at the allied symbol is just has red dot center with the blue outer ring. They already have the maple on the secondary logo and script. Most importantly, they should of had gold instead of the silver. There are so many connections with Gold and the city, including hockey history, like the Winnipeg Falcons that won the first Olympic Gold in hockey and that even team Canada honored. Even the Canadian air force uses Gold as there third color. There are many planes that are completely gold. http://www.asmac.ab.ca/aerospace/main_collection_details.asp?list_id=5
Plus they used Gold trim on the symbol for the Allied Planes as well. http://www.richard-seaman.com/Aircraft/AirShows/YankeeAirMuseum2006/Highlights/index.html

So close, but missed the mark. As with Aircraft, that isn't good enough in my books.

Brian's set is perfect.
Shut up and take my money.

Brians are beautiful. I'd buy both.

I'm not saying I like it, but Stephen's design seems to me to be the one most likely closest to what the Jets will actually come out with. I just think that the red piping is a given, and his is the only one with it. I think the striping won't be so unique, however.
