0031: That Which Will Never Be
Tuesday · Mar 20 · 2012 | 9:00 AM PDT 7 Comments
A few days ago, we learned the Buffalo Sabres retired their third jersey and have no plans to rejoin that club for the foreseeable future. Apparently, the new owner wants to build the brand and the best way to do so is by foregoing extraneous jerseys. However, before all that, there were rumors of the Sabres potentially swapping their royal blue alternate sweater for a black one. Mat Ware demonstrates what such a jersey might've looked like. With the Sabres' new owner so intent on establishing a brand with staying power, we can probably count on never seeing anything like this for real — at least while he's at the helm.

Feels too much like those "black ice" jersey they have at the nhl shop.
No thank you. I always liked the "B" with the sword going through it as the shoulder patch. I wish they incorporated that into their current unis.
It is the black ice jersey, instead of the red you should've replaced it with at least one of buffalo's colors.
No, no, no. As a lifelong Sabres fan ... a thousand times no. The Buffalo Sabres are blue and gold. Period. And the dropping of the current third - or anniversary sweater - is a sad mistake, IMO. It does a great job of honoring the Sabres past with the royal blue and gold, and an even better job of honoring hockey in Buffalo with it's "Bisons-esque" script. Bring it back!
I agree I'm a Sabres Lifer myself..No more Black, Red and Silver ever..the 90's are gone. I don't even like the silver in the jerseys they got now. Blue+Gold+White=Sabres
The Sabres should keep the original look and get rid of those awful shoulder numbers... never liked the 3rd jersey they came out with, good idea scraping it
id like to see the return of the b-sword shoulder logo.
but yeah, this jersey is terrible, sorry.
