0015: Christmas Classic

Welcome to the other half of our Winter Classic Weekend. This one from Alex Valvo poses an interesting notion. What if the Maple Leafs opted for uniforms styled after the Toronto St. Pats? That would probably give us a holiday-themed Winter Classic just a week removed from Christmas Day. But given that Toronto's colors are blue and white these days, I'm not sure it's a viable option — though this very uniform was worn for a game back in 2002.

For the other part of this set, Alex gives us another throwback. Prior to the 1980s, the Winged Wheel was never exactly centered on Detroit's sweaters. In fact, the middle of the wheel part of the logo was used as the center.

I like the Leafs design. But I'm not a fan of the "leather" color on the Leafs uniforms (especially the helmet). I could see a combination of what's here and something like what Calgary did with their breezers, helmets, and gloves in the Heritage Classic.

As for the Red Wings, I also like it. Although, other than the shoulder logo and main logo, nothing screams throwback to me. It's just their home uni with the colors swapped. Maybe change the striping to something from when they were called the cougars or falcons?

All in all, I have to say that I could honestly see these being worn. Great work!

Great except for the faux leather pants and gloves. I just didn't dig it in the Flames and Packers throwbacks.

I can't imagine the Leafs using a jersey with no blue in them in this game. The St. Pats jerseys are a great look for a vintage night, but in arguably the biggest regular season game of the season, expect the Leafs brass to want their brand represented with blue. I love the concept for the Wings jerseys though, not a real big departure from the normal, but unique enough and would be a good sell.
