0101: Lighting the Way
According to the Islanders, their black third jersey is here to stay for a while. But the most common complaint I've heard, beyond the fact that it's black, is that it doesn't have a logo. And what could be a better logo for this team than a lighthouse? Kevin Dion set out to design a black alternate for the Isles with that in mind. And the best part is that the team already has a lighthouse logo in its history. But it's been overshadowed by the frozen seafood character that was placed on the front of the jersey. I'm guessing it won't be popular simply because it's black, but I think it actually works as a third color for the Islanders. How about you?
Kevin has made a few adjustments to his design and wanted the revised version shared here. What do you think? Is it an improvement?

Totally diggin' this one.
The concept of the lighthouse on a black shirt is stunning, as of course when is a lighthouse in use? During the night. It's totally ideal and so this concept and black work perfectly.
The actual logo, I'm 95% with it, but something is missing from it. I don't know what, perhaps that little something that makes a good logo, into a very special logo. That isn't meant as an insult either. As for the rest of the shirt, the only thing that I'd like is a think pinstripe of the blue on the top and bottom of the orange. It would highlight that the striping more and the blue could also represent the water to which the lighthouse is serving.
Putting a lighthouse on a black jersey actually make a lot of sense, I prefer this 100 times over to what they have now!
I - I like it. I hope I never see it in reality, and it could probably use some more blue for continuity, but I like it. If they did something like this in orange and no black then that would be amazing. We always see this lighthouse logo floating around and I think it really works for a third.
To be honest, I like the black added with all these blue/orange NY sports teams but I hate how in all three instances it was randomly introduced for the sake of profit and trend. I feel that the colors work and I enjoy how the blue takes away from the halloween effect (like how "wheat" took away the christmas effect for the Wild, except it barely helps for their current red jersey). Having said that, you can't just add in a color for the hell of it (money) especially with the Islanders history. If those were a teams original colors then fine but if it's black for black's sake, I don't want to see it. Although, the Whalers are somewhat guilty of this. They went for dark navy blue during the black era to cash in. But it's forgivable because they only darkened a color they already had and wound up with the greatest jerseys of all time.
This looks a lot better than the current third jersey. My only comment would be that while more stylish, the tilted lighthouse appears to be falling over. Just my 2 cents, which aren't worth even that much.
I can't fully explain why, but I really like this jersey. I shouldn't because it's another black jersey for the sake of being a black jersey, but I do like it. My only concern with this concept is that the waist stripes might be too small to notice (they'd completely disappear if a player tucked in one side of their jersey). But, if that weren't an issue (and it might not be if executed as-is anyway), I'd love to see the Isles replace that travesty of a third with this one.
This is a better idea for the Isles' third jersey than the one they have right now. It could use a little more blue, but overall, the design is good and simple enough to work.
Im not a NYI fan of any kind. But I can appreciate a good jersey and a good concept
now what we have here is a good concept, far better than when the PR pros at RBK have come up with.
The Lighthouse idea is great although Im not sure I like this one in particular. for the actual jersey I would agree with some other comments that there should be a little/much more blue.. I would copy the sleeve pattern to the waist band to get the blue that is sought after.
This is a picture of a concept posted just over two years ago that I this another good concept. mostly Im posting this to show the logo. its a simpler logo that I think would brand the team well, taking the foggy sky from this logo but using that to represent the four cups they won with Al Arbour in 1980-83
