0102: Sabres with Swords

One of the gripes I hear a lot is about how the Buffalo Sabres logos tend to feature the animal for which the city is named as opposed to the weapon for which the club is. Jake Bartal's concept deals with that issue pretty well. But then I've never minded the Buffalo sports franchises allowing the symbol of their city to represent them. What's your take?

So far not many people like this design. However I gave it 5 stars, it's innovative and definitely a step in the right direction. I'd like to see more of the saber and have the handle B be smaller, but I like it.
I think I would like this better with Buffalo's current color scheme. I like the logos, even thought the star thing at the bottom of the main crest is reminiscent of Dallas' star logo. TV numbers and a view of the back so we could see the number font and NOB would be great, too. You might also want to make the main crest smaller, because the hem stripe seems to get crowded out, especially on the away sweater. I do like where you're going with this, though. I think it would help having a logo that relates closer to the team's namesake.
as a Buffalo native and fan, I've never minded the Sabres use of the Buffalo in the logo. Part of that is probably attributed to the fact that there are sabres in the logo as well, so the logo is quite literally is a combination of a buffalo & sabres. I didn't like the logo in the black and red era, but the fact that the main crest was just a buffalo head with no sabres involved is only one of many reasons I wasn't a fan... the biggest of which was the abandonment of the blue and gold tradition. Teams with great uniforms don't need to change (Blackhawks, Bruins, Canadiens, etc.) and I always thought my Sabres were among them... but that could be a homer's opinion.
I think I can speak for most Sabres fans that we're glad to have our logo and (even though they've been updated) blue and gold uniforms back. With the Buffalo Bills finally updating those hideous things they wore from 2002-2010 to a great new set last season, we've got no reason to complain about the gear our teams wear anymore.
I think this is a fantastic logo! I love the idea of the handle as the B. I would like to see the gold colour a bit brighter, but thats it. Great work Jake!
Interesting logo but the colors are too dull, not a lot of contrast. I personally think the jerseys they have now (minus the piping) are just about perfect.
Um...the star makes the sword look like it is going inside the shirts, which means we can change the team name to the Buffalo Castradi.
That being said, I like the B in the handles...
As a Sabres fan I can't find anything positive to say about this set. I understand the design element of the handle being in the form of a B but what is the connection with the star shape on the blade? I'll take the buffalo any day over the alternative right now.
Looking at this, in no way does it scream Buffalo Sabres to me. Maybe some form of pirates or admirals jersey, but the colors are too dull, and the star just doesnt fit in with the logo at all. IMO the current logo/jersey works great for the Sabres. The logo is a classic, and classics should'nt be changed. The one thing that would be nice to be added to the current jersey is the old B with a sabre through it, that was introduced in the black and red era and carried on to the slug days. That B needs to return to the shoulders.
maybe the blade goes through a star out of revenge of the '99 Dallas Stars...
Without reading the caption and just looking purely at the design, I thought this was a re-design of the Dallas Stars. It's a little too confusing for me.
Looking solely at the jersey without the logos, I like the color scheme. Navy Blue, Gold and White work well together. The striping is a bit safe, but, most NHL franchises go safe with their striping.
Overall, I'd say it's not working very well.
this is the worst Sabres concept ive ever seen. the only way i could possibly see this work in any way would be on the shoulders. but the style B with the sword through it back in the black and red era and into the slug era was amazing. and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the current Sabres logo. giving the classic a little life a few years ago was the best thing the Sabres have ever done. as a life long Sabres fan, any other logo someone can come up with for them can just get shot down. what they have now is PERFECT representation of the city and nickname. the Sabres should never mess with what they have now.
