0116: All-Star Overhaul
We can't have a Stars Week without getting the All-Stars involved. And with all the new throwback jerseys being introduced across the NHL over the last few years, it would be easy to see the All-Star Game getting that same treatment. So Tex Fischer put together these retro-style all-star uniforms. The last time the league used orange and black sweaters was 1993. And they'd done so for 20 years. Bring 'em back!
Now this one I probably should've posted a long time ago, but it just got lost in the shuffle. And as I mentioned earlier this week, I'm on vacation and this post was written a couple weeks ago. Therefore I have no way of knowing if the Stanley Cup has been awarded of if the epic Game 7 is happening tonight. Anyway...
Kris Lutes wants to see the defending Stanley Cup champion not only host the All-Star Game but also face the best players from around the league for one awesome match. Theoretically, this would be very cool. In actual practice, not so much. First, you already have players who see the ASG as a punishment for being talented. They don't like having to spend a whole weekend working in another city while less-talented players get a week off to spend with their families. And now an entire team is forced to go without rest. Plus, show me a Stanley Cup champ that's still comprised of the same players in January of the following year. Good luck.
So while it's a fun idea to think about, it just wouldn't work. But what do you think of the jerseys? Pretty sharp, no? I would say maybe do a little something more starry with the defending champ's jersey.

Love the retro All-Star game jerseys.
You could even substitute the orange for the NHL's current shield colour of silver and it would look good (although it may look too similar to the Kings). Even switching out the orange on each team jersey to match the long-standing blue and red team colours would work too. Both of those options would be a nice blending of retro and contemporary.
Yeah, unless they moved the ASG back to the preseason (where it was prior to 1966), a Cup Champion vs. All Stars format really wouldn't work anymore.
To be honest, the preseason might be the only time of year where players might actually get enthusiastic about playing in the game.
As for the black throwbacks - YES, PLEASE! In fact, those would still look good even if they used the modern silver instead of the classic orange.
Idea is cool, but the defending cup champs aren't even all the same players that won the cup.
Can't have a Stars week without Dallas Stars concepts!
I've seen the "Cup Champs vs All Star Team" format discussed before, and the one thing that makes it would make it work more would be putting it at the beginning of the season, as a means of celebrating and wrapping up the prior year and building the buzz towards the next season.
Have the banner raising and ring ceremony pre-game, and it'd be the last chance you'd get to see some of the players in their old teams jersey. This way you'd also get to judge the all stars on a whole season's worth of play, not just half a year. It'd in theory would also work as a way of saying goodbye to a player that might have announced their retirement. I'm sure more players would opt out of a pre-season game than a mid-season one, and the game itself might not be good with players just coming back from their summer off, but I always thought it was an interesting idea.
These are my all time fav all start jerseys !!!
Love the orange and black ones, thats prob my favorite out of all the orange and black asg jerseys and in my to3 favorite asg jerseys of all time! Please bring them back! Or at least switch it up this year, because I'm tired of the previous ones.
