0111: Edmonton Freak Out
Friday · Jun 8 · 2012 | 9:00 AM PDT 13 Comments
We're giving Ross a bit of a break after his epic Freak Out Friday series. Today, Kalin Szoke offers up this very unusual design for the Edmonton Oilers. I'll say this about it... I don't think you can possibly make the logo any bigger. Kalin tells me it was a first attempt at creating a concept jersey. It's certainly out there, but the real question is this: Would you want one hanging in your closet?

It's definitely out there...strangely, I like the way the back of the jersey looks. I think if the front of the jersey had the standard OILERS logo (or the old orange version) in a normal size (and no front number), it would be pretty solid. I wouldn't want to see it as a trend, but the word "OILERS" on the back actually acts as unique and interesting waist "striping".
All that said, it's not realistic for Edmonton to adopt. Cool/wild/crazy idea, though.
I might like it more with an blue-orange-blue vertical stripe between the waist and armpits, bracketing the logo. The 5 stripes on the sleeves don't do much for me. Very unique presentation of the logo though. What about a small oil drop stitched on to the bottom front of the collar?
it's like the baseball turn ahead the clock jerseys. less atrocious than it should be
For some reason I can't explain, I actually don't mind this. Too much sun maybe. Very Euro looking jersey, extremely busy.
I know this would add to the busy-ness of the jersey, but having the front numbers IN an oil drop would be kinda cool. This is freak out friday, so it's worth a shot! As the Great one said "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take"
if the orange collar formed the oil drop on the front instead of the players number, i think this would make it much better. i honestly like it. minor league-ish or european, but its different from whats in the NHL now. and it does not stray too far from what the oilers are.
ha ha I don't know why but i love this jersey.
It's different, but neat. I think the 5 arms stripes are for the 5 cup wins. Thank god my Habs don't try that. Oh wait! We could, and we'd get that beautiful barberpole back again!
I wouldn't wish this jersey on the actual team itself, but I'd wear it.
I agree with the back of the jersey looking pretty slick. Perhaps one single oil drop on the front or the 90's oilgear logo would make this a very decent 90's inspired throw back.
get rid of the front number and it's not too bad. seems like it'd be a decent fashion jersey to sell... if the arm striping was right
Definitely like the way the wordmark is the bottom of the jersey... Could be better if there were a logo instead of a number on the front.
This is a certain FOF shirt and one of my beloved Oilers.. I'm no fan, seeing an Oiler shirt without a logo of sorts seems very odd, even if they've just removed the circle and expaned the Oilers. I hadn't even noticed the amount of stripes on the sleeves, whilst not exactly being "my" thing as it's too many stripes as such. It would be very Oiler like to do something like that, after all the marketing team would tell you each stripe represented a Stanley Cup. Remember the symbolism of everything on the much loved 3rd Oil drop jersey the Oilers had. The rivets, the cogs all meaning something.
As some else said the back of the shirt isn't that bad, maybe it's because I'm from Europe, and I see the back filled with sponsors etc, that it doesn't bother me having Oiles on the back.
I'm no fan, I can't even see this being considered, but for a FOF... Well done, it's freaked me out.
