0150: Hurricanes Re-Bourne

Andrew Bourne's concept series continues today with a revised look for the Carolina Hurricanes.

What's wrong with the current red, black, white & silver scheme, you ask? Pretty much everything. The red does make sense in the fact that the flag warning system for indicating horrible weather conditions is red, but I'm not liking it. When I think hurricane, I think water and wind. Who first thinks of a red flag? Possibly people much smarter than I.

One year, I stumbled upon the hurricane toilet (in reference to the current Hurricanes logo). I actually kind of liked The Hurricane logo until I saw the toilet photo. Once you see something like that, you can't un-see it. So, I knew I had to do something drastic for The 305cHL Hurricanes. The primary logo is a mix of the Canes word mark and the swirling hurricane logo. I like the combination because you get a real sense of movement and you discourage the toilet...

Note: Sorry for the late post today. I didn't set my auto-publish date correctly. Better late than never though, right? Can't break the 150-day streak now!

the third jersey looks like the florida everblades echl jersey.... we have too much blue in the league already. i would like to see maybe a storm grey, black, silver, with a hint of blue and green? maybe you can make some changes. I dont like the CANES wordmark over the logo. its too much like the SENS and BOLTS thirds and it cant be on the primary jerseys. maybe as a possible third. i think they should get a new hurricane logo period. i like your idea of movement in the logo tho. maybe they dont need so many swirls in it? idk just throwing out ideas.

What's with all these generic two-toned blue jerseys that keep popping up on this site? This looks like a lame concept for Vancouver. A team needs to have personality, and this is way too "safe". I will agree that their current logo is boring, but Carolina's jerseys right now have a LOT more personality and flair than this.

the green flag makes no sense, the flag is supposed to be red. red flag means hurricane.

I like the alternate with the Hartford Whalers color scheme.

Agree that the Red doesn't make sense outside of the Hurricane Flag, unfortunately they had to use it since they're going to share an arena with N.C. State basketball (colors: Red,White).

That said, as a Canes fan, the primary home and aways are the best concept for the team I've seen thus far. I'd recommend removing the green for the set. One issue with the teams current jerseys is the silver accents add too much detail -- added details from the Whaler days I'm afraid. The Senators and Devils jerseys both do a better job balancing Red/White/Black and both sets look much sharper than the Canes.

The 'Toilet Logo' looks much better with the cool, toned-down colors. Would love to see that as the primary crest, without the word mark.

Not bad, though at this point red and black, for better or worse, is the color of the Hurricanes. I'm all for completely changing the logo, as it badly needs to be replaced, but completely changing the color scheme doesn't sit exactly well with me.

The two on top are well done but look more like college or minor league uni's. The concept below that is a HUGE improvement to there current third's, which I absolutely cannot stand.

The colour scheme idea has legs, and so does putting the name through the middle of the logo.

However, making that name "Canes" in the primary logo is an awful idea, unless you actually think the team should rebrand as the Carolina Canes, which just isn't a good team name at all. I have limited patience for "SENS" and "BOLTS" on third jerseys, because 3rds are so often dumping grounds for stupid ideas, but a team putting a nonsensical abbreviation (sens, avs) as the teams main identity is just brand suicide. In Carolina's case it's even worse, because cane means "walking stick" or "plant stem".

Also, Green in a Hurricane warning flag means "all clear."

Not bad, but I don't get why green needs to be added. This would look pretty cool with the red flags on it replacing the green stripes.

Actually, this set is really nice. Would love to see more green though.

Thanks for the great feedback! Just a quick note, in my own stupidity, I just made the 3rd jersey with Hartford in mind. I adjusted the jersey and replaced the greens with a red that seemed to work. I understand that the green 'all clear' flag is pretty dumb to have on a hurricane jersey... To see the red revision, check out my website.

Two things I am not a fan of are featured prominently in the home jersey. It has the shortened team nickname featured prominently on the front, and that dull blue on blue combo that been beaten to the ground on this site. Carolina's color scheme is fine, but it needs to be better proportioned on their jersey. The primary "eye/toilet" logo I wouldn't seeeing ditched all together.

Good colour palette, even though I didn't like anything to do with the Whalers. My biggest issue is that I am not a fan of the nicknames on jerseys. CANES isn't good, but I don't have anything better than it, besides just putting the whole name. It might be alright. Lethbridge does it.

I really do see movement in the logo. Very well done good sir. I like it!!

The home and away set is my favorite for sure. They're simplistic, the colors look great and I especially love how the logo looks. Nice work.
