0166: Flames Re-Bourne

Here's another set from Andrew Bourne, this time focusing on the Flames.
The Calgary Flames already have a solid jersey set, but there is definitely too much going on in the home and away jerseys. It's time to bring back some history to The Flames and really make them stand out as one of the best designed teams in Canada.

This is 10 billion times better than what the Flames wear now. The current Flames jerseys are some of the worst in the league in my opinion. One reason I like this concept is because the C crest on the red jersey isn't black. I actually like everything about the home and road concepts here. The alternate needs a little more colour in my opinion.
Not half bad of a concept. One of the best of "Re-Bourne". BUT, I would change the vintage white to a normal shade (they moved to Calgary in 1980, they're not that old). The burgundy is where your losing me as well as the yellow shoulder numbers on the "white" jersey. The yellow logo on the home is original though, I like the idea.
I generally like the home and road jerseys here, though I think the collars could stand some contrast. I'm not quite getting the color choice for the alternate, though, nor the shoulder markings.
And just one thing... hockey teams play on a white surface. Dressing them in off-white jerseys makes their unis look unnecessarily dirty, and makes them stand out in an unappealing way - at least, that's the way I see it. If these had pure white, I'd give them a 5, but as is, I'm knocking them down a point.
Also, the numbers on the road jersey's sleeves should have a red outline. Yellow-on-white is a little hard to see, and the off-white only compounds that effect. Either that, or just have them match the back numbers....
These Calgary jerseys are so close to being likeable. the home and road are great except for the numbering (I would like it if shoulder and back numbers matched, and were legible on the road jersey). I do not understand the alternate jersey. to me it is boring, and does not represent the flames well. The flames have great colours which match their name. burgundy does not.
Can't wait for Habs "Re-Bourne"!!!!!!!!
I like this a lot. I think the burgundy on the third is a wonderfully interesting concept, though the flames haven't really been a single color team ever. I think if you were to replace the black with the burgundy in their current color scheme, you could do some interesting things with it. As far as the striping goes, the shoulders of the alternate jersey are different, but in a good way. I tried to imagine what it would look like if the thinner stripes were replaced with red and yellow (so the striping would be burgundy at the thickest part, then red, then yellow), but I'm not sure it would work.
Quick Note - I forgot to add this paragraph in my description:
"Basing my alternate jersey off of the '03 home jersey, I kept their diagonal stripes but made the color scheme eggshell and burgundy. The stripes were in reference to a military-type feeling for me. I know that Calgary didn't have anything to do with the US Civil War, but the original namesake of the team did. The diagonal striping, especially on the shoulders and arms should reinforce that militaristic feeling. "
If you feel so inclined, you can read the full description at the blog. Thanks!
I love what you did to these Flames Jerseys. I think the Provincial flag on one shoulder and the Canadian Flag on the other shoulder should go on those current jerseys. I think the draw strings around the collar should stay and be apart of your re-bourne jerseys.
But once again you did a fantastic job, sometimes simple is better.
I like the home and road, but I think a white crest looks better on the red jersey. I also agree that white needs to be used not vintage white
This is so cool! Flames definitely need some help. What would it look like if on the home jersey if the think stroke was white instead of yellow?
Nice job.
