0361: The Americans

Team USA is the focus of today's concept entry in International Week. Kevin Garrigan came up with this sweater design for the Americans.

sorry man, but i think that is just terrible and gives me no sense of nationalistic pride. (which means nike will probably put it into production right away.)

Really? That's the best we could come up with for our nation?? Stealing the basketball USA logo?? Awful.

No, no, no, no, no.

That's terrible. The USA have had some nice logos in the past. This is plain ugly and boring to say the least. Sorry.

i'm not going to be as hard on it as other but i will say it feels like a football jersey. but a bigger problem is how cramped it feels around the chest logo and the numbers on the back. they both feel squeezed onto the sweater.

Even this Canadian feels bad for my neighbours to the south for having to witness this....with all due respect to the designer, may just be the ugliest jersey I've ever seen.

Geez calm down everybody. This guy just designed a jersey, it's not like it's going right into production right now. It's just a concept. I think it's better than the current USA jerseys with the ugly logo.

I hafta agree with the consensus here, I understand why you took the Olympic Basketball logo, but I don't think it translates well onto a hockey sweater. I'm not going to be as brutal as the rest of them, but the logo and jersey design fails on a basic appeal level.

Personally, I hate the fact that the IOC has banned the USA HOCKEY and CANADA HOCKEY primary logos--both are perfect designs that are undeniably recognizable. Last Olympics' arched USA was a disappointment, as well as the third diagonal throwback. Personally, had I the software (and the time) to put together an Olympic USA sweater, I'd look to revamp the 1932 USA Shield crest into something a little larger and prominent, but go with the navy and red versus the royal and red. And keep the big fat two-color numbers from the 2004 WCOH---that 1/2 or 3/4-inch white bottom color on the red looked awesome!!! It would even be better as a kiss-cut kit.

The best US Olympic Sweater ever designed IMHO, is the 2002 version. Classic logo, great jersey layout, great colors.

The logo is bad, very bad. But , the IOC banned the flag from being incorporated into the USA on Olympic uniforms. Stupid rule, but that's why you only see a plain USA on the front of Olympic jerseys, and a flag logo on World Jr's, etc.. Get something other than MS paint and maybe you could have made everything more proportional.

It's definitely not my cup of tea, but I'm not the type to bash anyone's work. I think there's a limited amount of things you can do with just 3 letters as the "logo". I think the best one we've had so far is the USA with the S being the waving flag. little more white in this jersey also might do something for it.

I'm actually quite glad the IOC banned the use of the hockey federation logos- I never did like the USA hockey design on a jersey, and while the Hockey Canada logo was better, the black still doesn't feel right to me. USA Hockey jerseys look best when they have a plain block USA in some configuration, and last olympic's was spot on to my eye, at least in terms of that. USA in white and red across the front of a blue jersey. Put a star or the '32 shield on the shoulder. That's it. Keep it simple (stupid).
