0509: How to Fix the Senators
Thursday · Jul 11 · 2013 | 9:00 AM PDT 22 Comments
Nobody likes the Ottawa Senators' uniforms. Let's just be honest about that. They use an ugly, generic template and have no regard whatsoever for the club's own history — recent, ancient or otherwise. So Matt Marczel puts forth this solution. I approve. Is there anyone who doesn't?

Looks great! Would like to see the bottom black stripe continue all the way to the bottom of the jersey though.
These are nice, but I'd prefer the original profile logo.
I love the three current Ottawa jerseys - and I'm a Leafs fan!
Everyone agrees that the current jerseys are terrible but I also though that everyone agreed that the dark jersey should be BLACK. Good set though.
I really, really like this concept, especially bringing back the original logo. The only change I would make to this fabulous concept is I would ditch the red jersey and bring back the original black uniform. Excellent job Matt!
another excellent set of concepts for the senators, really hope matt has emailed these to the team owner (or head of merchandise / marketing at least) and if he hasn't done so already, he should do it right now!!
Love it! Have always loved the Sens 2D logo, like to see them go back to it!!
The only thing I don't really like about these is the black on the end of the sleves, it looks out of place. The jerseys would be better with no black at all other than inside the crest.
I'm not crazy how the sleeves do not match the hem. Other than that, not bad. I think the laurel wreath leaves would look pretty cool on the sleeves and hem, someone should try doing that. Give the team something unique.
I like it, but that alternate logo looks pretty similar to CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders throwback logo. COnsidering some of the challenges these two cities have had with sports teams (for a while they both had CFL teams named roughriders, despite the CFL being usually around only 8 teams)
I'd rather their alternate logo be the "O" with the red and black bars they have beind it, cementing that. And frankly, those throwback thirds need to remain a fixture.
I don't get the hate on for the Sens' current jerseys. I like them quite a bit--the jerseys, that is, not so much the logo on them. Generic template? I'd say the "stripes at the waist and elbows" look that half the league uses some variation on is a generic template. I like that at least a couple of teams have so far resisted the convoluted "vintage" trend (third jerseys notwithstanding). If every team goes the Carolina/Dallas/Tampa route and tries to feign heritage by copying original 6 looks, it will get boring fast. There are only so many ways to put stripes on solid colours, and I like that Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Calgary and Washington dare to be different without being gaudy (looking at you, Nashville).
These are awesome, and that's coming from someone who hasn't truly liked a Senators jersey set ever. Add a black jersey to complete the set, on the same template, and you have an absolute winner.
Just about anything is better than what they currently wear, but this is def one of my favorite concepts out there. Adding a black sweater as an alternate would be cool and I think filling the hem with its respective black and white stripe or adding a 3rd to complete it would look nice as well. Overall great job.
Not bad, but rather than just have the gold on the sleeve stripes, you should put a narrow gold band on the stripes on the body of the jersey. Be consistent. And I'd drop the gold trim around the numbers - the 2 colour digits look sharp.
I wish they would go back in black and use their first jerseys they had back in 1992.
Who says everybody hates the current Senators uniforms? I don't remember anyone asking me.
not a fan of the Gold stripe on the arm...unless you mirror it on the bottom trim and socks, other than that i like tho!
My fav Sens jersey of all time is the old Black third, with the gold and black laurel wreath stripe on hem and sleeves. I don't particularly care either way about the original 2D full-profile Senator crest or the 3/4 profile that they're using now (and on my black third Hasek sweater), but the sharpest design feature they have is that laurel wreath stripe, in my opinion. Nothing else like it in the NHL, and adds a bit of original style to an otherwise unremarkable design.
This mock-up is really nice, and would look great on the ice. But if it were ME, I'd throw the laurel wreath stripe on the sleeves and hem. That would really pop.
I believe you can really improve this jersey by changing the logo. Just keep the head and helmet, but get rid of the thing on the right side. you know, where it currently says ottawa or has the leaves. I know if wont be round, but it would so much more bad ass if they just focused on the actualy Roman and his helmet.
I wouldn't mind if they switched to these from the ugly template (penguins too) but I wouldn't mind if they went in the direction of the current 3rd jersey with a profile logo
The thing I love most about the current Sens set is the font - especially the numbers. Switching to this but keeping the font would be the best solution in my book.
Not a fan of this redo... I love the current Ottawa Senators jersey... and I am NOT a Leafs fan (leans over and spits)!
