0547: Metropolitan Green & Red
Sunday · Aug 18 · 2013 | 9:00 AM PDT 6 Comments
Every week I say Seattle's future NHL team can't be named the Metropolitans. And every week I post a Metropolitans concept. We're four posts into Seattle Sundays, and they've all been great, they just have the wrong name at the top. This week, Bart Wentink has a bit of a Christmas theme going with his chosen shades of red and green. But that third... you know whatever we name that team, we will end up wearing that jersey against the Vancouver Millionaires one day.

I like these Metropolitan concepts. However, I totally agree. Re-naming Seattle's future NHL team the Metropolitans would ruin the novelty of ever having heritage games against the Canucks wearing Millionaires gear.
I've always said that when the NHL officially arrives in Seattle, the PERFECT name for the franchise is the Totems. There is a lot of history with that name. The old kelly green and white uniforms with the iconic Totems crest would sell across the board.
The original Totems of the old Western Hockey League had the longest tenure of any professional hockey team in the Emerald City. In fact, the Totems' owners almost got an expansion team during the mid 70s but unfortunately, the deal fell through. The Totems and the Canucks along with their iconic Johnny Canuck logo had a strong rivalry back in the day.

Wow, this one beats Ryan Hasslet's concept by milies and kilometers !!! Everything is perfect: color scheme, font, logos. Way to go , Bart !!! I would by these in a heartbeat !!! City of Seattle , please, chose these jerseys !!!
Being colorblind, the Red jersey is very bland to me. The stripes don't pop.
I know this is just concept fun, but they most likely wouldn't name the team Metropolitans based on the fact that it's the name of a Division.
I actually designed these before the NHL overwhelmed us all with its stupidity by announcing "Metropolitan" as the name of a division. (Put Florida, Tampa Bay and Carolina in the old, genuine Atlantic division and move the landlocked Pennsylvania teams to the Northwest with Detroit and Columbus, but I digress.)
The 3rd jersey is a throwback to the original jersey the Metropolitans wore as Stanley Cup Champs.
I think the name Metropolitans (Metros) would be the best name because once named the team is already a Stanley Cup Champion. Heritage games can include the Vancouver Millionaires, Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens, whom the original Metropolitans beat when they won their first Cup.
