0550: The WNHL Series, Part 2

Last week kicked off our WNHL Wednesdays miniseries from Nick Burton. He's creating custom teams for a fictitious Women's National Hockey League in six North American cities. He began with the Montreal Royals and today moves on to the Boston Irish.

Love the Irish bordering and striping which was really clever but i think u shouldn't use too much of it and possibly change the gold colour to a light grey/silver and still have a small amount of gold ex. On number and name outline and small amounts on striping. Thats my opinion.

The "Irish" text takes up too much space and the jersey would be better served if removed altogether. I like the braid-striping. Very unique.

While the Montreal Royals concept was good, I don't care for this. I understand Boston has a large Irish population, but calling this team the Irish doesn't resonate. I don't like the lattice work in the trim either.

I think this is brilliant. For those that don't know, this isn't lattice work, but Celtic Knotwork, which was placed on everything from the shields of warriors to cribs of infants to signify power and protection. I think that these would be a nifty kit for Notre Dame to wear, either to replace the green with blue or leave as is. Excellent work!

There is a Woman's hockey league. Look for the CWHL. Montreal (Stars) was the first to have a team name and logo. Toronto has a name but no logo. and Boston now has a simple logo and a name. The only thing for the league is that NO team has a logo on the front of there jerseys, It's just the city name in block letters.

The Celtic knot striping pattern is awesome!

i like the jersey, but not sold on the name or logo. if this was a real team, i think people would have a tough time recognizing it was a women's team. all about marketing, you know?

Maybe make the clover bigger and make the letters and numbers match along with my 1st comment's tweaks and its a 9.9/10 in my books.

The idea of Amanda Kessel playing for a Boston team is kind of funny.

I love the whole "WNHL" series - but as a player for the only pro women's hockey team in the US (Boston Blades) I was hoping to see a little love for my team.. We need a total redesign and especially a logo. CWHL has turned down every logo we've submitted. Hopefully some designers see this post wink wink

But back to the jersey, I love the Celtic design overall on the jersey, but I feel the logo takes away from the great jersey design. It's complex that it looks simple with the circle (which too many teams have now, lacks identity) but also has that pattern around it.. I'm just not a fan of it.

@LAUREN LYNN heard loud and clear. I've submitted concepts on here before, not like my definitive work per se, but I'm always rooting for women's hockey to get more of the limelight they so rightly deserve. I have some concepts, including my absolute favourite of my own work, which I've never shared, but happens to be in your team's colours. I'd also be interested in seeing what you all have submitted previously. If they have some suggestions for what everyone wants out of it, I'd like everyone's input; I'm totally on board to help. I've seen alot of the sweaters in the womens' hockey leagues, and they always seem to look like college jerseys. That should change.
