0580: This Way to Brooklyn
Friday · Sep 20 · 2013 | 9:01 AM PDT 14 Comments
Earlier this week we heard from the Islanders regarding their uniforms for their impending move to Brooklyn. They said the blues and whites will remain the same but a new third jersey is on the horizon. So that validates all the silly black-and-white numbers I've been posting on Freak Out Fridays for the last several months. This one from Matt Andersen is another that made me chuckle.

Very, very hipster. I like it.
There's...two kinds of unique... This is an example of the bad kind.
Just because the Nets sucked all the color from their basketball uni's doesn't mean the Islanders have to do the same. This would look terrible on the ice. Bring back the Gorton Fisherman for their third uni! I love that uniform and would like the Islanders to embrace that as a third.
That's a New York state highway sign on the back.
i actually really really like this one.
maybe i'm a bad person.
OK. I'm officially freaked out.
This would look rad hanging up in a hockey bar.
lol, logo looks like a character from a wingding font
Truthfully, I'm pretty interested in this. I don't know why, but I really think this looks like a nice faux-back type uniform.
The front is the shield used for all of the Long Island parkways (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_State_Parkway). The back is the shield for NY state highways.
It's... interesting. The idea is ok, but I would've not made the logo look like a street sign.
This is kind of a brilliant freak-out - love the NYS route number on the back and the Long Island parkways logo on the front. Very, very fun.
Plus anything's better than the Isles' current thirds and at least this gave me a chuckle.
I would pay top dollar to buy this. It shows I'm an Islanders fan, my Long Island background, and the fact I take the Northern State Parkway to the Meadowbrook Parkway south to the Coliseum (which hands down has the best sight lines in the NHL, it's a no contest). Definitely a concept I would seriously consider.
for those that dont know, the design is based off of road signs on the northern/southern state parkway on LI. knowing this may help you understand why the designer went this route
