Collection 16: Winnipeg Jets Redux
Sunday · Mar 13 · 2011 | 12:21 PM PDTAs I said Friday, we've got another round of Winnipeg Jets concepts today. The trouble with the Coyotes is getting folks in Manitoba pretty excited. And whether or not the Jets name will be resurrected, it's looking more and more like Winnipeg will have a team again soon. Today we start another super-sized post with several different designs by Mike Ivall.
And now we'll revisit a couple of Jets concepts previously posted on Icethetics.
Now that we've seen all these different ideas for the Jets, what if Winnipeg gets a new team and they're not the Jets? What should they be called? What rumors have you heard? What should their colors be? Comment with your ideas or email in some concept art.

Really like the logo on the Mike Ivall design... Even like the look of the jersey, just wish there was a way around using red, white, and blue...
Heard a report on TSN last week they might name the team Winnipeg Falcons or Winnipeg Moose. Would play in the NW Division with the Avs moving to the Pacific.
I'd love to see logos 3 and 4 with the Alt colors from 5. I think those alt colors capture enough spirit of the old jets logo without being just another red/white/blue combo.
I want to buy the second Dallas concept's blue jersey right now!
As for what colours should the team be, either Red/White/Blue like the Jets, or my preference Blue & Gold like the Bombers!
I seriously hope the team would be called the Jets. But Falcons would be a great name too, homage to Winnipeg's history. I wonder if any one owns the rights to the Winnipeg Falcons name.
And I love Ryan's alternate design. I think that's really sharp!! The vintage white is interesting on the shoulders, and the jets could get away with the off-colour name bar because they had it on their jerseys in the 70's. Good work!
Not quite a concept because it was actually produced and sold shortly before the Jets left, but I've had this little number tucked away in a box of Jets merch in my closet for 15 years. They never wore it on the ice, but I think the design is clean, original, simple, and doesn't step on the toes of other red/white/blue teams http://twitpic.com/4999d2
I like the first Bombers concept such a beauty same with the First and Second concepts so nice all three could easily be real Winnipeg jerseys and if they came back id hope they would consider one of those.

Connor buddy. They won't be able to use that logo because its a logo use by the Huston Aeros of the AHL. It would fit nicely.
Love the jets name, colors and history. The concepts are amazing!! Great work!!!
I really love the 4th submission by Mike Ivall, though it would probably be best as a 3rd Jersey. Its great to see the Canadian Air Force colors and rondel being used in tribute like that. I could see these being used or selling well at auction after an armed forces appreciation night.

take the logo from mike ivall's 3rd design (without the words hockey club on it), put it on the jersey from his 2nd design & i think we'd have a winner!! that is if they come back as the winnipeg jets of course, why not just use the manitoba moose name / logo / jerseys??
I gave high marks to anyone who thought "outside the box" for their wordmark, striping, etc...mad props to Ivall's black/grey design (i don't think it would actually work, but at least we're seeing something than another Blue/Red), but gave low marks to anyone who just copied the NFL NY Jets wordmark and put it on a rangers jersey.
@feenix, I'm no fan of the design either, but what you call the NY Jets wordmark ripoff is actually a slight modification of a logo used by the WHA Winnipeg Jets in the early '70s,
Bad news! I just read on the sportslogos website that should Winnipeg return to the NHL, the team will not be called the Jets and worse, the Manitoba Moose franchise of the AHL will be promoted instead. Same name, logo, and colours. There is a saying I've heard. If it makes too much sense, the NHL will not go with it. If the SuperSonics name and history can remain in Seattle should the NBA return to that city, where is this logic when it comes to the NHL?? It's bad enough with Minnesota being called the Wild and not the North Stars. Give Winnipegers back their Jets and refer to them as Winnipeg, not Manitoba.
Being from Manitoba I remember when we lost our beloved Jets. And listening to the rumors of Winnipeg getting a team back for the last few years always gets me wondering who they would be called and how they would look. If it is Phoenix who moves back they could be called the Jets again because they own the rights to the name and logo. The rumor here is that they won't even be called Winnipeg but Manitoba instead just like the Moose. I personally think it should be the Winnipeg Falcons if they aren't the Jets. But if they are named Manitoba it should be the Moose.
Also I like Ryan Haslett's Alternate and Heritage Classic ideas. I like the off white or vintage white look going on right now.
All these designs might be in vain because Winnipeg might not be able to use the Jets nickname if a team moves there.
@ Mike Ivall: that concept is very old. I understand that it's the houston areos old logo but I used it just to see how it would look. Shortly before the first jets concept post a few days ago I sent in a new concept that uses the 90's logo but it looks like it didn't make the cut here.
I like the second and third ones. They have a cool 80s vibe you don't get a lot of in design work.
Nothing wrong with Manitoba Jets, the Moose can change if they don't like it.
And please, Mike Ivall, use the Avro Arrow at least, not a friggin' F-35! Otherwise, the last one by Hanley, Mason #3 in red, is the best.

Did you know that Canada has set to purchase 65 of the F-35's from Lockheed Martin? That's why i used the the Friggin F-35. Trying to be a bit up to date here.

I'm kind of warming up to the Manitoba Moose. I should have at least one if not two concept/rebranding efforts for Winnitoba today (Friday 6/3) at some point!! :)
