0048: The Atlanta-Hartford Freak Out

Ross Taylor takes his NHL brand blending series to a new level by giving us two teams at once in this concept. On the left, it's the Atlanta Thrashers and Flames being combined. If Ross' goal is to use the best aspects from each design, you can see how he feels about these two teams. There's hardly a whiff of Thrasher at all. Speaking of which, if we have Wild Stars and Rockalanche, what would you call this hybrid? The Flashers? The Flamers? Yikes. Of course, there's always Firebirds, which I'm partial to.
On the right, we have a merging of the Hartford Whalers and Carolina Hurricanes — though, let's be honest, it's more Whale than Canes. The Hartolina Whalicanes? The Caroford Hurrilers? Probably should stop doing the names at this point. Regardless, I'm still impressed by what Ross is showing us with his hybrid redesigns. Even if this one fits the Freak Out bill better than all of his previous efforts combined.

Really dig the socks on the Atlanta uniform. I haven't really seen anything like that before but it looks awesome!
I love the Hartford one but I'm not to sure about the Atlanta one.
If a team ever returned to Hartford, they could call it the Whalers and still use that logo. Looks awesome, but doesn't really say Canes at all.
The Atlanta jersey's okay but the logo looks nicely fused. The Whalers logo is actually very nice. The hurricane looks quite like a wave and again, it's nicely fused into the original logo in a noninvasive way. Very simple jersey design but you certainly can't say it looks bad.
Atlanta Fried Chickens Vs. Hartford Whale-a-Canes
Atlanta Burners Vs Hartford WhaleStorm
I think the Hartford sweater looks great, but the Atlanta logo looks like two things slapped together. My thinking would be to switch to a full body bird in those colors, and call them the Firehawks ( similar to Atlanta Hawks Basketball)
Sharp Whalers jersey! Been holding out hope for15 years that they'd return to where they belong. If/when they do, this is what they need to wear, as it maintains the integrity of the original sweater, yet would pay subtle homage to their Carolina days. Tastefully done, Ross!
Brilliant use of the Atlanta Logo
Isn't the Hartford jersey a white version of the Canucks' alternate?
