JerseyWatch Concepts

In today's brand new concept post, we take a look at what's in store for the 2010-11 season. The following designs are what Icethetics artists came up with based on descriptions in the initial JerseyWatch 2010 post.

A.J. Bloomquist

One concept that caused a stir after the JerseyWatch post went live was this one by A.J. He posted his work on Sabres' message board months ago. The crest, a script similar to what was described to me, is taken from the old logo of the Buffalo Bisons of the AHL.

A.J. submitted a clean version of his concept so we could all get a good look at it. And who wouldn't love to see Buffalo paying tribute to their town's hockey history on their 40th anniversary?

Jeff Wozniak

Similarly, Jeff sent in his understanding of the rumored new script crest. But this veers pretty far from what I was originally told — which is that it's basically a baseball-type script with the 1970s logo positioned in the tail.

Still, that was just a preliminary concept and things can change. So Jeff may be right on the scent.

Doug Graham

The Penguins are also big news right now. Word from Reebok is they're launching a new alternate sweater for 2010, not to mention all the rumors that the Pens will see action in their second Winter Classic in four years.

Doug's concept is based on the rumor that the Penguins will dig up another blue jersey from their past. He could be on the right track with this. I could see them making it the home jersey one day.

Tony Galiffo

The Blue Jackets will allegedly be debuting a new third jersey in the fall. The team has said it will feature a cannon as its primary emblem. So Tony's incorporated that as well as his own little tribute to the old Cleveland Barons, who wore large patches shaped like Ohio on their sleeves.

Michael Lapsley

Michael tackled a couple of JerseyWatch rumors. The Maple Leafs will be putting stripes and shoulder patches back on their mostly-plain jerseys next season. This is more than likely what we should expect to see — unless the Leafs design a brand new shoulder patch.

Michael Lapsley

And the Ducks are on the list to add a new third jersey in 2010. Absolutely no details have circulated as of yet, but Michael's thinking they go with an orange sweater with the webbed D front and center on the chest.

He's done some nice work but I kind of hope he's wrong. I'd like to see the Ducks introduce a new logo with this alternate sweater. Maybe something that actually resembles a duck wouldn't be too much to ask?

Our NHL rebrand series continues with Part 7 this weekend!

These aren't really that bad. I don't necessarily like the Sabres opting for a baseball-script for their front, let alone the ruckus it'll cause in Buffalo if they don't do the "cross swords" logo.

I like Pittsburgh's current alternate, as so many do, but I'd like to see them go to dark blue. However, in this mock-up, there's too much white and it contrasts the darkness of the blue too much. There's too many bold colors that are too far apart to be effective, for me.

For Columbus, I don't think they need an alternate. I think their jersey is perfect as it is, and I can't envision them having a different logo on a jersey than what they have now. A cannon just doesn't look like a hockey logo for me. It does remind me of Arsenal's club crest, which similary features a cannon, but as all football clubs do, the crest is relegated to a patch on the heart of the shirt. I just can't picture a cannon front and center.

For Toronto.... yawn. We've seen this before.

Anaheim shouldn't have a black third. PLEASE!!! If you can't do a black jersey right as the primary, you shouldn't be allowed to use one as an alternate. Being in Orange County, I feel should have an orange jersey. But the more I see concepts of it, the more I feel like it shouldn't be. The Flyers will always be the "orange" team in the league, and while it'd be nice to have multiple teams share that color (like Minnesota and Dallas sharing green), I'm starting to feel that the Flyers are special and unique, in the sense that they've had the same logo ever since 1967, and only them and the Islanders and Oilers (although they were originally WHA), since the expansion have used the same logo for its entire history (exclude MIN, NSH, ATL, and maybe FLA because they're too new). I don't really want to see another orange jersey in the league.

sabres jersey is cool, they should be using a sword underneath the script.

Penguins should be creating a black or goldish sweater with the powder blue thirds they have now, but just with there new colors, i thought they wanted to stick to gold and black????

ducks, i can care less, they ruined there identity

and toronto is just w.e

columbus should be exciting!

Get rid of the number under the Sabres jersey. It is an awful fad and it looks like it is more of a baseball jersey than what it is, a hockey jersey

i'm always interested in uniform concepts where the primary colour in the logo finds itself nowhere within the rest uniform, such as the yellow in this penguins concept (similarly the recent avalanche concept based on the state flag or the chicago blackhawks). i feel like it's a real easy way to make a logo really stand out on a sweater. a thing that bugs me about this penguins sweater, and it's not specific to doug graham's concept, is when they have the white shirt tails on dark sweaters (see new jersey's recent green sweater).

as for that leafs' sweater, i'm also expecting that as well. however i feel that if brian burke wants to successfully symbolize culture change in leafland, then he should have the team revert to the old logos and uniforms. i mean the leafs' current 3rd just look so much better. the modern logo just represents failure and mediocrity.

Toronto's will look better with the strips back on the bottom but they should stay away from the stupid TML logo on the shoulder. It always was a terrible shoulder logo. They should go back to the old style Maple Leaf on the shoulder.

That Buffalo jersey gets me thinking... reruns of "Cheers", anyone? Not bad though.

The Leafs design is pretty much what is expected to be for next year, but I've heard from a reliable source that they will in fact be going back to the 90's vintage leaf shoulder patch and adding a lace in the neck.

Gold Ducks jersey, anyone?

I say the old mighty ducks logo in the new colors or the last mighty ducks third with the new colors that would look good

Good job, Tony Galiffo, on ripping off the Arsenal cannon for your CBJ concept

Ducks: I dont know what is the fascination with this team and diagonal swooshing on their jerseys. It needs to stop. Keep your current colours, straighten out your stripes, and use the D solely on your chest. It might be cool to revisit the old logo with the new colours, or just have the mask. Alone, its not all bad. No triangles and sticks.

Leafs: 2 thoughts- Keep the 3rd jersey logo and stick it on your "revamped" jersey for next season (no blue shoulders) OR get a CBJ style blue arm band down to the cuff. I think CBJ has one of the sharpest set of jerseys in the league. Very clean.

CBJ: Dont mess with a good thing. You've turned it around after that awful bug logo, and the subsequent CBJ logo.

Pens: Navy, white, baby blue and yellow dont really mix. But that wont stop them from doing it, as long as they are selling #87 jerseys. Plus that new arena next year.

Buffalo: kill the slug.
