0637: Thinking Outside the Circle

This Freak Out Friday is designed to make you "think outside the circle," according to designer Johnny Woods. He's put together jerseys for the Islanders and Sabres, teams that have traditionally employed circular crests. Hit or miss?

the new york one i really like. don't have the same feelings about the buffalo jersey. (i think it is just the sabres at the bottom. they look out of place down there.)

Miss,I don't understand why people continue to come out with changes to the NY Islanders jersey, There's an old saying, if it's not broken than leave it alone. Not only is the NY Islander's jersey not broken, to me it's one of the classiest jersey in all of hockey. Especially the Classic White, that jersey to me, is the Classiest .

My moneys on that blue islanders jersey as a pretty close incarnation of the stadium series jersey.
How old is that concept chris? That islander logo is pretty darn close to the recently released chromified one this week.

Not bad. The outline around the buffalo could be a little more precise, though; maybe a thicker yellow outline around the blue.

Isles here is much better than the Sabres. That one could realistically work IMO. Make the swords the focal point on the Buffalo jersey and nix the animal and you likely have the start of something. Breaking up the hem stripes just looks too 'Wild Wing' for me.

I appreciate the (literal) thinking outside of the box. Not a fan of the Sabres one, but I like the Islanders one. Of course, that may be because I've seen (had) the idea before (http://www.icethetics.info/storage/concepts/0529-chriswright-nyi.png?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1306694192723). ;-)

Well, I must say that the "no circle" aesthetic works well for the Islanders, but I personally think that it really screws up Buffalo's jersey. Interesting concept nonetheless.

Split decision on this one. The Islanders one looks very good. The simplified logo looks good and seems to fit there. The Buffalo one is less successful. I think it is just taking up too much space on the front of the jersey. I think the idea could work, but this drawing is off. Shrink them a bit, bring them closer together and restore the bottom stripes. Perhaps even superimpose the Buffalo over the sabres, and see if that works.

The Isles' ones are awesome. The white one in particular... I'd buy 3 of those.
