There was some confusion in last week's NHL JerseyWatch update as to whether the Islanders would be altering or even dropping their new black third jersey. They put the rumors to bed with a tweet from their official Twitter account, but that doesn't mean we can't improve the jersey on the Concepts page. Matt Marczel has this to offer.

This half of the Winter Classic Weekend is focusing on New York. It's fair to say there are a good number of fans hoping to see the Rangers and Islanders face off in the elements. We've seen lots of examples for the Rangers, but what about the Isles? Brett Ireland provides us with a very simplistic yet intriguing solution. The only thing that probably wouldn't work — since this is a TV event, after all — is the lack of contrast on the back numbers. And while the design doesn't exactly scream Islanders, it would probably fit the Winter Classic theme.

On this Freak Out Friday, we continue a neat series by Ross Taylor. Over the last couple of weeks, he's merged identities of teams from different eras but tied to one city. For this one, it's one team with multiple identities rolled in to one. I have to be honest, I don't hate it. But then I never hated the fisherman as much as other people did. It was really just the wavy striping that got me. Very amateur. The rest of the uniform was pretty solid.
As it turns out, this series won't be ending here. It was originally planned for three weeks, but Ross has since provided a lot more examples of his brand blending. So I'm sure we'll see more next week. But I won't give anything away yet.
