0711: Blue Jackets a Century Back

i

Dylan Wonka is working on a new series that imagines what certain NHL might have looked like if they'd existed back in the 1920s. We'll kick things off with his take on the Blue Jackets — of course I doubt anyone in the early 20th century was designing logos quite like that one.

0701: Fixing the Ducks' Stadium Look

i

One week from today, the Ducks and Kings will take things outside for the first regular season NHL game to take place beneath the SoCal sun. And having just been down there a week ago, I can't imagine how they'll keep the ice icy. Magic, I presume.

Anyway, Dylan Wonka is back with a fix for the very orange jersey Anaheim will sport for their Stadium Series game. It adds — interestingly enough — a colored shoulder yoke and, hey, stripes! So one question: Better or worse than the real deal?

0689: Carolina Alternate

Sometimes you see a concept an have an instant reaction, good or bad. Normally I have to look at something a while before I can form an opinion. But this one from Dylan Wonka hit me immediately. I love this as a third jersey for the Hurricanes. It's one of the most unique striping patterns I've ever posted on these pages. What's your take?

0680: Last Looks for the Big House

This Outdoor Saturday is our last chance to look at some alternate concepts for the Winter Classic before the first puck is dropped. Dylan Wonka designed a pair of Red Wings and Maple Leafs jerseys just for the occasion.

Do you like either one better than the actual jerseys the teams will suit up in on Wednesday?

0677: A Very Wild Christmas

i

So often the Minnesota Wild are given a hard time for their "Christmas colors." And whether you agree or not, today one is the perfect opportunity to celebrate that. First up is Mat Ware whose created home and alternate jerseys to go with the team's new road sweater.

Next is a sweater by David Parkinson who put together just the right combination of red and green for that holiday feel.

On the other hand, Justin Nahhas went with a green jersey and still achieved a similar effect.

Finally, Dylan Wonka presents a pair of jerseys. The white one is pretty solid, but the Wild but the green one has some very merry striping if you ask me.

BONUS CONCEPT

Before you go, I've got a bonus concept that was tailor-made for today. Our favorite 8-bit artist Al McCready recreated the Stars' and Hurricanes' new uniforms in his unique style. Merry Christmas!

0671: Minors That Might Have Been

i

Teams come and go so often in the minors, so today's theme within Minor League Week has to do clubs that no longer exist. Like yesterday, Bastian Schmülling kicks things off. The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights exist today as the AHL's Abbotsford Heat. But perhaps they could've donned red and grey if they stayed put.

The AHL's old Buffalo Bisons club hasn't been around for 43 years, but Dylan Wonka imagines a comeback, complete with that classic bottle cap crest.

Technically, the Peoria Rivermen still exist, but now as a member of the SPHL. The AHL club was relocated and became the Utica Comets this past summer. Maybe they'd have had more luck as less a riverboat captain and more a canoeist. (Is that a word?) You can tell Antonio Calisto had some fun with this one!

We'll wrap up on a team that's soon to be relocated. The AHL's Adirondack Phantoms will become the Lehigh Valley Phantoms next season. So while this jersey set is cool, the "A" wouldn't work anymore.

Check back tomorrow for some big time minor league Freak Outs!

0656: Yankee Stadium Sketches I

i

It's Stadium Series Week on the Concepts page and Dylan Wonka gets us over the hump with three jerseys for the Yankee Stadium games. His take on the Rangers is unique but likely not accurate. The team will wear white with NEW YORK across the chest. Still, it's a clever use of an element of the Rangers' shield logo.

Next up is an Islanders proposal. I'm intrigued by the use of black striping on the primarily blue and orange sweater. But I have a feeling Long Island fans wouldn't warm to it.

And lastly, we have the Devils. So far we've been hearing the Devils will go with a throwback unlike the rest of the participating teams. However, they'll be wearing red instead of white. Look for them to sport the red and green number they've worn on St. Patrick's Day in recent years.

Meantime, what do you think of Dylan's designs? Any you'd like to see in action at some point?
