0482: Big Apple Freak Out
How about a Freak Out Friday for the New York Rangers? Jonathan Tweedle has merged a couple of old NYR logo designs to come up with this. And I'll be honest. It sort of frightens me.

Ross Taylor treats us to a unique set of concepts on the Opening Day of the MLB's 2013 season. Baseball and hockey collide today on Icethetics.
What do you think?
Prior to the 2012 NHL Winter Classic between the Flyers and Rangers — August 2011 to be more precise — Simon Stenstrom submitted this concept for the big outdoor matchup. Like me, Simons's a bit fan of the Lady Liberty logo — which I recently learned is still in use on the team's road practice jerseys, apparently. He also liked the Quakers concept that floated around a lot that year but preferred not to alter the Flyers' logo too much. It's a pretty solid look and just the kind of thing we like to see on a Winter Classic Weekend.
Last week, we got a look at a Winter Classic starring the clubs from Pennsylvania. This week, Joseph Loretz provides a New York-based game between the Rangers and Islanders. And like any good Winter Classic, there's some unnecessary vintage white in there for good measure.
I can't stop posting Lady Liberty concepts for the New York Rangers. Most of them are just superb. Especially this one from Thomas Hopkins. By the way, you may have heard the bad news. Until this season, the Rangers had been wearing the Lady Liberty logo on their practice jerseys. Not anymore. And that's depressing.
If the Rangers refuse to bring back the Lady Liberty third jerseys, maybe they can use something like what Brian Brideau has in mind. Or do we have too many stars and stripes?
I debuted a new Winter Classic series by the Brothers Waddell last week. Chance and Jake have designed retro-style sweaters for all 30 NHL teams. We started with the Kings and Penguins. Then the first to comment on that post got to pick the next two teams; Brian chose the Rangers and Islanders. (Unfortunately, that meant posting three different Islanders concepts this week. But I'm keeping my word.)
Same deal this week. Which teams should we look at next Saturday? Be the first to comment.
