0708: Classic '80s Flashback

This takes me back a bit. If you were a hockey fan in the 1980s and early '90s, you no doubt remember this great uniform match-up. David Parkinson had the 2015 Winter Classic in mind when he came up with this one. But frankly, I don't want to see the Flyers in a third outdoor game so soon.

Who would make a good opponent for the Caps?

Anyway, had to track down a photo. That's Craig Berube in the Caps jersey. In a funny twist, now coaches the Flyers. He actually jumped around between these two teams throughout his career. And in the Philly sweater is Jim Cummins just before he was traded to Tampa Bay in 1994.

(See how I can tie anything back to the Lightning?)

0696: Philly in Grey

I never know how designs like this one will go over with you guys. You'll either love it or hate it. Could you imagine the Philadelphia Flyers in grey? I think this could be such a sharp sweater by David Parkinson, who was inspired by a ball cap design he once saw.

0665: Flyer Freak Out

We were so close to concept number 666 landing on a Freak Out Friday the 13th! How disappointing. But that's not going to stop me from trying to give you a little scare. This Philadelphia Flyers jersey was designed by Jake Wells but it's absolutely something we could imagine Nike trying, isn't it? Let's hope they never get the chance!

0586: By Brian Brideau

In this week of featuring some of Icethetics' most prolific concept designers, we come to an artists who's been submitting work to the site for as long as I can remember. And he's always thinking outside the box. First up, he's got a Flyers concept inspired by the first third jersey of their in-state rival, the Penguins.

After the Coyotes unveiled their third jersey in 2008, they posted some of the unused logo designs that were considered. Brian borrows one of those logos for his Phoenix concept.

Finally, it's not the first time we've seen the Penguins in blue, and it almost surely won't be the last. But with the '90s logo? That's a bit out of place. But it makes for a very cool (pun!) sweater design.

0566: Pennsylvania Freak Out

I don't even want to explain why this 2015 Winter Classic concept by John Elbertson belongs on a Freak Out Friday. It's more fun if you look at it a minute and realize on your own.

0555: The White Winged P

Anyone interested in seeing the Flyers bring back black for alternate jersey purposes? Brendan Anderson has a neat idea for one. And it involves a white version of that classic logo. Yay or nay?

0537: Classic Philly Stripes

I can't quite put my finger on the reason why, but this is really what the Philadelphia Flyers should be wearing. I don't have many quarrels with their existing look, but Matt Marczel brings bold striping and and a shade of orange that combine to create an amazing kit. Really well done.
