I just don't like that "D" on the WC jersey. It just doesn't look right. It also doesn't help that the Cougars apparently used two different versions of the blackletter D:
http://www.goaliesarchive.com/z/cougars/goalie/holmes.jpg - the style used in the WC
http://www.hockeylegend.com/_borders/1926cougarsguide4.JPG - a more traditional, Tigers-like D
Then again, I'll always prefer the 1927-28/1991-92 design. "DETROIT" in nice, bold letters across the front. Not something to go back to full-time, but I'd love to see that one out on the ice again on special occasions.
What can you say, these jerseys are perfect.
There's a timeless simplicity to these uniforms. I get the impression the Bolts tore a page from the Wings in designing their new one. Both uniforms are very telegenic. Should make for esthetically pleasing matchups next season.
Can't go wrong with any of these.
I'd love to see the Red Winds pull something out of their past to use as an alternate. Either the WC jersey, or the 27-28 ones.
Best in the league.
I would love to see those as a Wings third-jersey some season.
Just realized I never commented on the regular jerseys. Obviously, the Red Wings' design is a classic. It's taken me some time to adjust to the slight modifications made to accommodate the Edge template - namely, the added real estate on the upper sleeves, with more red above the numbers (up to the yoke) and below (down to the stripe). I'm glad they kept the stripe the same size, though, and didn't try to make it conform to the contoured elbow panel, but my biggest complaint is the universal one regarding Edge jerseys - that stinking curved hemline! I have a hard time believing performance would be adversely affected if they reverted to a straight hem like the old days. Besides, modern fabrics notwithstanding, these are supposed to be sweaters... and I've never seen an actual sweater with a curved hemline like that.
Ultimately, though, this is sucn an enduring design, and as a Red Wings fan, I'm glad the Ilitch family is committed to never messing with this look.
The WC jersey should become the alternate.
