I'd like to see the current home & away with the alternate logo on the crest - I think that would be dynamite
I like how Phoenix is last. Maybe they'll relocate to Winnipeg in a day so the Jets uniform will be up here. And i was just wondering, shouldn't it say 1917-present instead of 1927-present? It's the same team, same Stanley Cup banners, etc.
They weren't named the Maple Leafs until 1927, hence the date. In other words, in 1917, there was no such thing as the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's the same way the Anaheim Ducks gallery says "2006—". The team's previous names are listed beneath so you can see when the franchise was formed.
Best set in the league! Yes...I am very biased. Go Leafs Go.
Even though I am not a Toronto fan I was glad they ditched those garbage RBK designs they were using and brought back the tail stripes and the vintage leaf on the shoulder. The collar is a nice touch too. They now at least have good looking uniforms.
Their 3rd jersey has always been one of my favourites, I love the old style Maple Leaf.
I agree with Adam A, a blue version of their current alternate jersey would be cool.
I love the Maple Leafs uniforms except those socks are an eyesore. Bolder stripes and less of them would be much better.
@Chris
Ok i just wasn't sure, because i saw the Mighty Ducks listed in the inactive teams, but not the Arenas or the St. Pats.
I agree with Juan R, these uniforms are almost perfect in every way... the only bruise is the socks. If they fixed those (and hopefully they do with a new alternate upcoming) they will have the best in the league next to Detroit.
Daza: Understandable. But I don't have any way of getting game photos for the Arenas or St. Pats to make galleries. That's why they aren't listed in the box above. Have to be realistic about that aspect. I doubt any of these galleries will go back further than the 1990s... maybe 80s.
I doubt the socks will be changed... If you look at the Maple Leafs 1927 blue jersey, the stripes on the sweater match the socks exactly. When they changed the jerseys (I think it was 1934?), I guess they didn't bother with the socks and they ended up being adopted with the new look at the time. And since it's a classic and vintage look, it would be a safe bet that they will not fuss with original 6 tradition too much. I personally like the socks, and feel it adds a subtle bit of character to a somewhat "safe" look.
Maybe waaaaaayyyy in the future you could go as far back as the late 60's early 70's. Just a thought. Leafs have a great set, now that they ditched the t-shirt look.
No, it's not a matter of will, Tex. It's a matter of finding quality photos, which I don't think will happen in great quantities beyond the early 90s. That's why I'm guessing that will be the limit. But personally, I'd rather try to get through as many current minor leagues as I can moving forward instead of trying to go into the past.
The socks were pretty consistent with the 9-stripe pattern for some 40-odd years, and oddly enough only changed with the 1970-92 era - ironically, going with two thin stripes, much like the "classic" Leafs jersey, instead of one bold stripe that would've probably better "matched" the Leafs' jersey of that era. When they decided to "revert" to the two-stripe design (albeit modernized) for the 1992-93 season, they curiously decided to bring back the nine-stripers as well, when they could've just as easily kept the Ballard-era two-stripers and have them match.
Although the nine-stripers did match the one-off 1996-97 jersey that they wore in celebration of the 65th anniversary of Maple Leaf Gardens (which had some bizarrely large, rounded numbers on back, and prior to Vancouver's opening night this season was almost certainly the only time since 1977-78 that a team went with no name on back in an official game).
On the jerseys themselves - the return of the stripes, the simplification of the numbers and names, and the new heritage leaf are definitely major improvements over the first Edge jerseys. My only complaint is with the lace-ups, which I still maintain are utterly pointless on a modern jersey if it's not an actual historic recreation (i.e. the Leafs' alternate, which is a 1960s throwback design). While I tend to be traditionalist in many views regarding hockey and the NHL, I don't see the laces as "traditional", but rather outdated - and just plain ugly.

Oh, I get it, looking forward to the minor leagues.
I'm liking the new alternates. I particularly like the return of the pants stripe, and that the sleeve/waist stripes match the pattern used on the socks.
In fact, while I get that they wore those socks for an incredibly long time (1930s through 1970), originating with the jerseys with the multi-striped sleeves but worn mostly with the old two-stripe unis, they just haven't looked right with the modern two-stripes in my opinion. Seems to me that the Ballard-era two-stripe socks would be a better fit with the modern sets. But, that's a minor gripe.
